Re: [OSM-talk] Major Update to OpenRouteService 2.0

2015-03-23 Thread Alexander Zipf (HD)

Sure we do like them ;-)
but we still had some issues with available ressources, but are working
on it.

I think it's already quite a step from europe only.
(ps. you understand that all this is no funded work, so we can't always
do as much and what/how we would like to do, but one small step after
the other)

[OSM-talk] Major Update to OpenRouteService 2.0

2015-03-19 Thread Alexander Zipf (HD)

Dear OSM community,

in case you are not of aware of this we want to point out that after
some years with less ORS related acitvities we finally managed to rise a
completely new OpenRouteService from the ashes :-)
Both the back- and frontend have been conceptually and technically
totally renewed.?

Your welcome to test the service @ our usual URL:
www.openrouteservice.org

The most important features :
- OpenRouteService is now available for all of Europe, Asia, Africa and
Oceania/Australia !
http://giscienceblog.uni-hd.de/files/2015/03/ors_world.png
- 7 different and enhanced routing profiles for cars, bikes and
pedestrians (more to come)

- faster implementation
- automated weekly data update
- completely new implementation of accessibility analysis (more
realistic isochrone maps)
- new WebClient with support for AvoidAreas, Import/Export of GPX etc.
- Check the Advanced version from the Options page

- support for many international languages for directions
- base map styles from OpenMapSurfer and OSM-WMS.de et al.
- deployment on a new, stronger server
...

Also, the ORS wiki has been updated to further describe the available
services (API) : http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenRouteService
Please try and give us feedback via Github regarding any errors or
simply improve the client yourself:
https://github.com/GIScience/openrouteservice/issues Also feel free to
contact us at openrouteserv...@geog.uni-heidelberg.de

Thanks a lot to all the recent contributors of the new ORS team: Maxim,
Enrico, Oli, Timothy, Lukas, Jo, Boris, et al.!!!
Stay tuned for more updates this month, you'll find more news at our
blog : http://giscienceblog.uni-hd.de/

all the best

[OSM-talk] cfp: OSM @ GEOINFORMATIK 2013 (Deadline for abstracts: Dec 12th)

2012-12-13 Thread Alexander Zipf (HD)

Dear all,

Please feel invited to submit abstracts (1-2 pages) for the OSM special
session at the conference GEOINFORMATIK 2013 in Heidelberg, Germany
(March 13.-15.2013).
The deadline for submissions of abstracts is approaching soon -- Friday
next week!
In addition to the conventional sessions dedicated to science, business
and public administration, we plan to have a specific session dedicated
to OSM, Open Geodata and Crowdsourcing GI.

Therefore we are looking for interesting presentations about this.
Of course you can send in abstracts about any other innovative topic
related to geoinformation.
You can find the call for papers here:
http://geoinformatik2013.de/index.php/en/call-for-papers
Please use the conference system for submissions and do not contact me
directly about this (I am not the programme chair).
Further options include posters, workshops or an exhibition by companies
and other institutions.
Of course there will be a free OSM community booth, but other exhibitors
are welcome (conditions online).
The conference will be held at the oldest university in Germany in the
romantic old town of Heidelberg :-)

Looking forward to meet you in March!
all the best
