[talk-ph] For Maning: OSM Garmin map size from 18Mb last Friday to 11Mb last night?
Hi Guys. This may be off-topic but maybe not. @Maning - Just wanted to check if the file size is right? I have Fridays OSMPH Garmin map and I haven't updated for a few days, but when I checked today the size seems off. Last friday the map was at 18Mb+, today it's at 11Mb? Re: [talk-ph] tutorial on OSM for newbies
Yeah more hands-on tutorials, that's what we need. :D I've got traces and lots of POIs but adding it in is getting daunting. The last edit I did was to add a previously missing bridge near our place. Am not confident or comfortable enough to add the POIs since I'm tag-challenged. This makes for better and easier navigation when using the osmphil_garmin GPS map that Maning compiles. Most town nodes are still located at the geographical center of the boundaries of the town. If the node is moved near to the municipal hall (which is usually along the main road of the town), a traveller can see better what town is next down the road when he/she navigates with a GPS. cheers ed -- website administrator: - www.waypoints.ph http://www.waypoints.ph - reeflife.eppgarcia.com http://reeflife.eppgarcia.com PADI Divemaster #491048 ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org mailto:talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph -- cheers, maning -- Freedom is still the most radical idea of all -N.Branden wiki: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/ blog: http://epsg4253.wordpress.com/ -- ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org mailto:talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org mailto:talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

I export a map as an OSM XML file from Merkaartor and name it map.osm, then I use mkgmap to convert that into a img file for Garmin. The command line I use is: mkgmap-r1624$ java -ea -jar mkgmap.jar map.osm and mkgmap gives me an output file called numbersomething.img. I rename that file to gmapsupp.img and transfer it to my micro SD card Garmin/gmapsupp.img The output file should be several imgs (overview map, index, etc.). All these files should be integrated into a single gmapsupp.img. Add the gmapsupp switch in your syntax. mkgmap-r1624$ java -ea -jar mkgmap.jar --gmapsupp map.osm --gmapsupp Write a gmapsupp.img file that can be uploaded to a Garmin or placed in /Garmin in a microSD card (such as by mounting the device in USB mass storage mode). TODO: explain if this is in addition to or instead of the per-input files. So instead of merkaartor I go to OSM and export a map, but I can't get an area big enough to cover my trip. That is correct, you can't big areas for osm data via the Export tab in the main site. I think I'm missing a style file which I can't seem to find and it seems I'm not exporting my data from merkaartor correctly? You can get the style file for osm-ph garmin map via the trac/svn. Instructions on accessing the site is here: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/osmphil_garmin I think exporting from OSM directly saved me a lot of time but how do I get OSM to export as big as I need, like from marikina to enfanta, or say the whole of luzon or the Philippines? ;) The daily Philippine extract is here: http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/asia/philippines.osm.bz2 Good luck! I'm happy other people are doing the garmin map conversion as well. If you can find other improvements we can of course integrate them in the regular map update. ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
[talk-ph] First time to post..testing things out..
Hi Guys, First off, thanks to the guys who organized the first Marikina Mapping Party. Shout-outs to Maning, Eugene, Andrei, Rally, Ernest (and his partner *wink* *wink*), Ed (where'd you go after Jollibee?), and Parker. Just getting into editing the data I have from the mapping party. Got two nodes edited, saved and uploaded. How long do the changes take to appear on the OSM map? Maning, talked to my mom a while ago, she gave me a name, but can't recall it just now, someone who handles promoting the shoe industry in Marikina. She told me that we'll have better luck approaching suppliers directly but I'll give you the name tomorrow anyway. I was able to install Merkaartor on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala using the deb package for Hardy Heron. It's been running for a bit now and I was able to upload successfully. Waiting for changes to appear before I continue. Eugene, you are right, if I make the upload description too long, I end up with an error. I'm keeping it below 100 characters to be safe so I'm not making too many changes per upload to keep the descriptions meaningful. When I checked the mailing list the last post for the ph list was about more than a year ago? Is that the case or is my newsreader reading this mailing list incorrectly? Excited to continue with mapping hopefully everything works. Bart ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
Re: [talk-ph] First time to post..testing things out..
Hi Andre, So it's Andre without an i in the end. mwehehe. OK, so I should just keep on plugging the changes instead of waiting for the previous changes I made to show up. ;) Too bad I missed the tagaytay one. I'm adding a few new roads. Most of the subdivisions also need to be updated, Marikina went through a lot of infrastructure changes in the past few years and some of the roads did change with a lot of subdivisions having their roadway made public. Will be participating in the proposed Corregidor and Infanta one if that happens. [talk-ph] clarification on Ph only amenities
Hi guys, I remember asking about being able to add tricycle, jeepney, fx stations and shuttle terminals. But the tag is not listed in the OSM tag list on the wiki under amenity.
