The bridge itself has not been changed for almost a month and it has been
around since 2006 in OSM. So I am not sure one can judge very much from this
example.

[OSM-talk] Cloudmade routing

2009-12-01 Thread Jonas Svensson
Is this a bug in cloudmade routing or is there some problem with the
tagging of our roads in this example?

See

The routing has avoided the bridge "Tullbron" which is a bridge which is
perfectly fine to drive on. I get the same route for both fastest and
shortest, neighter is probably correct.

[OSM-talk] restore favorites in Garmin Edge 705?

2009-10-24 Thread Jonas Svensson
How do I restore the data in a Garmin Edge 705 after firmware
upgrade? I have a backup of \Garmin\GPX\current\current.gpx but
simply writing it back from the computer does not seem to work. It
is simply replaced with the new empty one.

There seems to be some changes in the file, ie altitude is added
for each waypoint, so I also tried to simply cut and paste an
existing waypoint and only change the name but that does not work
either.

Besides check all those edits, what would be the best way to see if
there are any changes in my area by that person? I have found one
bad edit so far.

[OSM-talk] Cloudmade Maps routing

2009-04-30 Thread Jonas Svensson
According to http://maps.cloudmade.com/ it is not possible to drive by car
from Stensättaregatan (58.41685269735186 15.595479011535645) to
Skräddaregatan (58.41647059846362 15.597131252288818). Is there some
problem in the tagging of the streets or is it because the routing is a
little too good at following access rules? Grenadjärgatan (the only
connection) is limited
access, anyone is allowed to drive there but only if you have to to reach
destination.

I get this error:
"Error processing request, message:Cannot create endpoint, The way
specified cannot locate the point on it"

If I select other streets closeby which still needs to route by
Grenadjärgatan I get "Cannot find the road between points".

Or solar powered, like . I
have not tried one but would like to know if they are usable?

Just guessing:
That kind of user might be looking for something like a "wizard":
click button "add road" -> show instruction "click start of road" -> show
instruction "click end of road" -> show instruction "enter name of road".

I know that there are a lot of details missing there.

Re: [OSM-talk] Hit my server

2009-02-07 Thread Jonas Svensson
Thanks to everyone! I will shut down the server in a few minutes.

Regarding purpose and what I learned: So far I learned that a
server does not need as much disk space as I expected. Postgres
uses about 40GB (full planet but no relations) and the tile cache
has still not reached 1 GB. Ram is very useful for cache but
otherwise does not seem to be quite critical. cpu power is really
needed for realtime rendering, as some of you have seen when
waiting for tiles and only getting 404. I guess cpu limits can, to
some extent, be avoided by prerendering tiles more agressivly. A
lot of cpu cores could have been useful too I assume.

The server has been a virtual machine by KVM in Ubuntu. Running
32bits ubuntu, about 3GB ram, 60GB disk and using a single core in
an Intel Core 2 duo 2.4 GHz. Importing the planet to the database
took about 12h.

Some of you has also mentioned the choice of language for the map.
I selected in this order: primarily swedish (name:sv), english
(name:en), german (name:de), french (name:fr), spanish (name:es)
and otherwise local/default (name). From this I learned that it is
not so easy to set up a regionalized server as one might think.
Places in the main area of a language does not always have a name
tag with the main language. For example Gothenburg in Sweden were
tagged as name-Göteborg and name:en-Gothenburg and since name:sv
where missing, my name selection failed. If I had selected only one
preferred language I could have avoided that problem. Depending on
if I would like to high light the problem or avoid it.

I have set up a temporary openlayers/mapnik-server at
. It can't take much load
initially when rendering tiles, but I am curious about what happens
later when the cache is covering most. So please feel free to hit
it it! It will only be availabe for a few hours.

I have not seen any invoice either but I have not searched the spam-folder

There are better solutions, at least for the bikes headlight. I do not
know what the name is in english but the generator is mounted in the
center of the wheel. Can't feel the resistance and it won't clog up by snow.
See for example
