I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The problem has been fixed. It 
essentially has been human error (my error).

Hint for overpass turbo users: you should still be able to run your
queries via the HTTP URL for the time being:

http://overpass-turbo.eu

Overpass turbo uses protocol relative URLs for most Overpass servers (
e.g. "//overpass-api.de/api/"). By running overpass turbo via http, all
requests to the Overpass backend should also use HTTP.

This is already being taken care of (the operator of the Overpass API is
aware of the problem).
