Re: [OSM-talk] 140 000 shops of unspecified type

2019-08-23 Thread Joseph Eisenberg
Openstreetmap-carto, the map style used in the "Standard" layer on
openstreetmap.org, will stop rendering features tagged with only
"shop=yes" next release (probably next month). See:

https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/pull/3718 - which
removes the rendering

Also see discussion at
https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/3697 for
reasons.

As mentioned in my message - many are on amenity=fuel and it is excluded in
JOSM, Osmose, provided query and proposed iD change.

Some may be secondary tags but in minimal numbers, at least I found
nothing popular during review.

yes, as the original mapper who knew the shop could not find an appropriate
tag to describe it we let it do a remote mapper in a gamified context and
with no clue about the actual situation.

It would nice to reduce it a bit (at least stop growing share of
shop=* tags).

how to find it?

JOSM validator since latest released version complains about shop=yes
-

just download data and run validator

This would be a perfect job to make a Maproulette task for.

are you sure these are all explicit shops? It could also have been used as
a property on some other feature (as in "also has a shop").

[OSM-talk] 140 000 shops of unspecified type

2019-03-15 Thread Mateusz Konieczny
About 4% of all tagged shops have shop=yes as its primary tag what is
not properly providing information about shop type.

It would nice to reduce it a bit (at least stop growing share of shop=* tags).

how to find it?

JOSM validator since latest released version complains about shop=yes -
just download data and run validator

Osmose has support for displaying JOSM validator complaints
http://osmose.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/#item=9002=1%2C2%2C3==

shows JOSM deprecation warnings

http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/H0S - you can
navigate to your area and press run

iD - proposal to add complaint is at
https://github.com/openstreetmap/iD/issues/5955

PS: Yes, some of shop=yes are on amenity=fuel but it is minority and even for
fuel
stations tagging shops as a separate object would be preferable.

PPS: There is a proposal to stop rendering shop=yes in a default map style:
see https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/pull/3718
