[OSM-talk] A tag tab

2008-05-21 Thread Bruce Cowan
I propose that there should be another tab added to OSM's site, which
would be a tagging one.

It would list all the tags being used via tagwatch, which is updated
every week based on the new planet. People could then vote (once only on
each tag) on tags that are being used. The tags could be viewed 3 ways:

  * By usage
  * By number of votes
  * By time since first use (maybe not this one)

There could also be a proposal area, as the wiki is a terrible way of
doing this.

Before anyone asks, I can't do this, it's just an idea.

Which unfortunately moves it from the useful section, to the yes,
it's been said before section of my inbox.

Tags are not always self-describing. Quick test: without checking Map
Features, can you tell me what natural=land means?

Given this fact, what would voting actually mean?

An abominable tag, misused by many for islands and forest clearings.
Usually found in conjunction with the misuse of layer= tags

:-)

Sounds like a rendering hack to me :-)

Not to mention the question, is the fact that highway=motorway has
5000 votes actually useful if you're trying to tag a banana
plantation?

natural=land
dromedary=yes
capacity=1

guess which view I'm using dunno? neither do I.
