I wonder if it would not be nice to have a banner for SOTM-EU on the start page. As the page is already crowded, this could maybe appear only if the user is logged in (because then the infotext below the logo is not displayed). An example banner can be seen e.g. on http://www.openstreetmap.de/ (in "Events").
