And, to top it, the GML data there is malformed... LineStrings must have at

The GPX format isn't that complex. So it shouldn't be too difficult to put a
fake tracklog with a length of one track point (at the location of one of the
waypoints) into the file.

if you're thinking of using excel, please consider openoffice/gnumeric
instead; for a number of situations, they are at least as good as
excel, and have the benefit of being open.

assuming you share the resulting tool, there are also those of us who
don't want to pay the hefty fee for a spreadsheet application, and
excel files are not yet fully usable in openoffice/gnumeric

thanks

If you upload the GPX file, Potlatch will show you the waypoints with
data (notes and whatnot) and can convert them to POIs with a few mouse
clicks.

i will put it into svn someday, it's however c# code and uses an "find
existing osm node in neighborhood of gpx way point" to reuse it. but
the gpx parsing and osm file generation is reusable.

Re: [OSM-talk] GML to OSM (Re: convert mapinfo POI to osm for uploading)

2008-03-14 Thread Ludwig
There is a converter in the OSM SVN system called osmtrackfilter somewhere,
which converts GPX into OSM, which can then be loaded into JOSM, where you
can edit the tracks and then upload them.

The location in the OSM SVN tree is
applications/utils/import/osmtrackfilter. It is written in Perl.

Well in every programming language you would be able to do such a thing.
But maybe you'd be fine by using Gpsbabel [1] which is a free tool to

[OSM-talk] GML to OSM (Re: convert mapinfo POI to osm for uploading)

2008-03-14 Thread maning sambale
Hi,

I need help in converting a POI GML file to OSM for upload. The GML
file is from a Mapinfo file of POIs.

Sample is below:
121.1017599,14.6289909
  MARIKINA
  2304
  0x900
  0

  MARIKINA
  NCR
  Philippines
  0001

What I am interested are to convert the:
MARIKINA to name=Marikina

and the:
2304 to place=city

I created a CSV file to convert the type code to OSM map features
(from the cgpmapper manual), sample below:
type,description,osm_key,osm_value
10752,dining (other),amenity,restaurant
10753,dining (American),amenity,restaurant
10754,dining (Asian),amenity,restaurant
10755,dining (Barbecue),amenity,restaurant

I know Perl can do this but I know no perl.

cheers,
maning
