When two schools share a building, it's common for the dividing line to shift from year to year depending on the makeup of the student body. Mapping this as two school nodes in a building is probably the best way of doing this, as the *entrances* to the schools are usually separate, and don't change over time. -- Mark ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

As an aside, if the discussion (which is now at https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto/issues/120 ) doesn't work out, it may also be possible to create your own map tiles based on a style that you create. If you want to create the same sort of map tiles that you can see at OpenStreetMap.org you can follow instructions at https://switch2osm.org/manually-building-a-tile-server-16-04-2-lts/ . There are other options too (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Rendering for some of those). If you're trying to follow instructions such as those and get stuck you could try asking on IRC (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/IRC ) - the #osm and #osm-dev channels are English-language ones, but there will be people available to help there, and there's also #osm-fr in French where I'm sure people will be able to help too. As if there are two schools in the same place, one mapped as an area(1), one as a node(2). I suspect this is the same school, so one of them should be deleted (preferably the node). David Is there any reason you are mapping schools as nodes? I do not see an issue when mapped as areas. Re: [OSM-talk] How to show school icons ?
Normally we map schools as areas, in which case they show quite prominently as yellow areas. The tag is put on the area of the grounds. Mapping something so large as a node seems quite odd to me. http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/52.8570/-2.7287 Phil (trigpoint) On 24 November 2017 07:57:20 GMT+00:00, David SAUVAGE wrote: >Dear all, > >From my understanding, school icons are not displayed in the default >OSM >(that is not the case of library, restaurant, gas station, ... >elements) > >Is there any specific reason leading to this choice ? > >What would be the process to change this situation in order for school >icons to be displayed on osm map with the same priority of a library ? > >For example, I just contributed a few residential roads and the "Quatre >Bornes State Secondary School" (1). [OSM-talk] How to show school icons ?
Dear all, From my understanding, school icons are not displayed in the default OSM (that is not the case of library, restaurant, gas station, ... elements) Is there any specific reason leading to this choice ? What would be the process to change this situation in order for school icons to be displayed on osm map with the same priority of a library ? For example, I just contributed a few residential roads and the "Quatre Bornes State Secondary School" (1). I am disappointed that in a major public interest project, the public schools do not get the priority it deserves, while private entities as banks, fast foods, fuel stations are made much more visible...
