I didn't discover the zoom-to feature until I read it in your blog post. Maybe you would like to add the Gaza strip as an example of OSM history [1]. Question is do there zoos know about these maps, They seam a lot better than many maps you see when you visit them. I think that something above zoom level 18 may be needed here.
