Re: [OSM-talk] Legal Wording again..

2012-09-14 Thread Ed Loach
Chatting on IRC yesterday for suitable updated attribution text for
my Maperitive rendered images, the following was suggested as
sufficient:

© OSM contributors, osm.org/copyright

was suggested as sufficient. My first attempt showed different
attributions for the web map background (cc by-sa) and the data I
was using (odbl).

If I understand it right, you have to have "(c) OSM contributors",
and a hyperlink from that text (or more if you choose) to the
copyright page. ODBL/CC-BY-SA do not need to be specifically
mentioned.

Maybe add "Tiles: yourserver (CC-BY-SA)" if you're serving them
locally

You might want to reimport your data as it is now (and in the
future) available as ODbL. If you stick with CC-BY-SA you will no
longer receive updates from osm.org.

Have a look how to credit the data:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright

Your work can still use CC-BY-SA, so something along "tiles CC-BY-SA
osmosa.net, data (c) Openstreetmap contributors" is fine. one link
to your site, one to openstreetmap as stated in the link above.

Re: [OSM-talk] Legal Wording again..

2012-09-13 Thread Paul Norman
If you want to add additional wording you could do so. Your wording must
make people aware that the data comes from OpenStreetMap and that it is
available under the ODbL.

Of course, you can only use the ODbL attribution after the new planet is
published and you reload your database.

If you don't do that then you can't update your data with OSM data either
and you need to use the CC BY-SA attribution.
