Let me make some publicity for it. (I'm not the author) In particular any site based on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cdauth%27s_Map instead of using OpenLayers directly, has a search field, that lets you enter either: * search terms * node/way/relation id * url to an .osm, .gpx, .gml or .kml file to load as a new layer. * wms could probably be added as a new options. Best of all, all the added layers are saved to the permalink so you can just link a person to your custom map. It also "does the right thing" about updating the url with the coordinates after a "#", so you can go back and forward in your browsing history like in yahoo maps (I guess it could update the url less often, though). The thing works similarly to the openstreetmap.js file hosted on osm.org, it just defines a new OpenLayers class that you can use to short cut using OL. Example page is http://osm.cdauth.eu/map/ Cheers ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

This isn't so much a request for RHoK but HOT or maybe this is the same thing. I previously noticed an earth quake in the last week or so and wasn't sure who to contact about it to let them know that is if they didn't already know, it'd be nice to have a bug site I guess of open/ongoing events, events that aren't deemed suitable and past events that were accepted. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [OSM-talk] Random Hacks of Kindness
Hi Y'all I know some of the folks organizing RHoK so I'll find out more details about the bounds of projects and post back to the list later today. I get the feeling that anything OSM related is fine. If anyone wants to do an OSM specific event that is tied to Random Hacks of Kindness let me know and I'll help make the connections and get resources appropriated for refreshments etc, if possible. I have been watching this closely over the last few weeks and trying to interject OSM into the conversation as much as possible without over stepping. The way I see it, the more we are involved the better, especially considering the great work that was done by the HOT team. OSM is not currently a partner but I see no reason why the community can't overwhelm them with our size and talent if community members decide that's the way they want to go. At the very least it ensures that MapMaker and other closed maps are not worked on during the event or move in on the work HOT has done :) "Or if contributing to large existing projects is out-of-scope, then how about a simple website that you can paste in urls of tileservers and KML files that are then displayed together. Here is a link to some of the other projects that are being worked on during the event: http://www.rhok.org/problem-definitions/full-list/ You'll notice that quite a few of the projects are also things CrisisCommons has been working on. They are an operational partner in RHoK and helped decide what would be worked on during the event. That said, anyone can work on anything they want. Its totally open so have at it! :) Best, Thea ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

It's a hard one without knowing some more about what the bounds are - does it need to be on any topic or can I just make suggestions on anything OSM-based and assume that it's relevant? :-) For example, there's always the rails_port to work on, and there's plenty of user-visible stuff in trac under the "website" component http://trac.openstreetmap.org/query?status=new&status=assigned&status=reopened&component=website&order=priority Or someone brave could delve into Potlatch2 and add some i18n before we get much further. Or you could make a humanitarian version of map_features.xml for Potlatch2. Or if contributing to large existing projects is out-of-scope, then how about a simple website that you can paste in urls of tileservers and KML files that are then displayed together. So I can view arbitrary KML files over any OSM-based tile background, without having to edit any html/js Cheers, Andy ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
