I think the highway=steps express already that one way is slightly above the other one. I don't see a real need to add this "is higher than" information since we may use srtm data for visualizing this. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
Re: [OSM-talk] Residential road on a hill
Three ways, middle one is highway=residential+footway=no, explicit links between the ways where there is a connection (highway=steps). I don't think footway=yes|no is properly documented, but it is referred to in a few places, and I haven't come across an alternative tagging for it. [OSM-talk] Residential road on a hill
Hi there, there's a residential road on a hill near my house (this one: http://osm.org/go/OVc0itC2c- ) that doesn't go from bottom to the top of it, but runs in a longitudinal way. The thing it that it's sidewalks are not in the same level. It's more or less like this: ___ |___ |___ a b c Where b is the road itself and a and c are it's sidewalks. Those | (the height difference from the road itself and the sidewalks) vary from 1 to 4 meters aproximately. Every 20 meter or so, there are some steps so that people can go from a or c to b and cross the street. How would you map this? Three lines, highway=residential and highway=footway (or pedestrian?) with it's steps? If so, how would you express that this highway=residential has no sidewalks? How would you express that a is higher than b that is higher than c? I'm aware that level=* is used when things cross, that doesn't seem to be the case.
