Interesting tool.

Searching for Data Centers in OSM, I observed inconsistencies with
building=[industrial, commerce, office] and no tag specific the Data centers. I
myself have added a Data center in the past but did not find an appropriate tag
to describe it.

To facilitate collaboration, I suggest that you provide tags for each feature
and point to relevant wiki pages.

Hi folks,

with Ben Dalton, I'm happy to properly launch The New Cloud Atlas
project at http://newcloudatlas.org

I've written a blog post to explain it in more detail:
https://thinkwhere.wordpress.com/2016/08/17/the-new-cloud-atlas-mapping-the-physical-infrastructure-of-the-internet/

It's a project to collect and make a map to better understand what
"The Internet" means, physically and geographically. The site has a
tweaked iD editor with custom telecoms presets, it creates a couple of
map tilesets showing these features from OSM, with clickable features
on the map.

We encourage you to map your local data centres, street cabinets,
telephone exchanges, telephone poles, manhole covers and more!

Telecoms features in OSM are not consistently mapped with regards to
each other which could provide an opportunity for some consolidation
or making new taxonomies. I've created WikiProject Telecoms to help
with this tagging discussion:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Telecoms

Cheers and I look forward to your comments!

Tim

Hi Tim,

This is really impressive, can't wait to test this special instance of iD :)
The road you went along since early 2015 brings a lot of positive things

Telecom tags consistency needs to be tidier, especially for towers, masts,
poles or whatever.
Your tools may help a lot to do so and find missing objects.

I remember of a talk about man_made=MDF and imho it doesn't sound to be the
best solution.

Because main distribution frame is only a particular component inside a
whole central office.

MDF can be mapped with dedicated features if mappers know exactly where
they are in (sometimes) big buildings.
The example you show is a building hosting many different kind of devices
and equipment and we'd better call them "central office".
telecom=central_office and building=yes (at least).

That's the point of this proposal

All the best

For Germany all phone exchanges from Deutsche Telekom have been imported
some time ago but you dont seem to show them.

This is an example for Exchange "ONKZ 5241 ASB 4":
