I'm guessing this is done because one wants both names to be displayed
on the rendered map. This is not possible at the moment (I'm just
guessing).

So doing
name:hy=Երևան
name:en=Yerevan
name=Երևան (Yerevan)

Would seem like the best idea. If the current  convention with
"name=$name:hy ($name:en)", can be maintained then that should work
too, I've yet to see a town with parentheses in the name so nothing
should break. But I've never been to the Lisp Republic, they could
prove me wrong.

Hi,

I don't think there has ever been any convention on adding two names in name
tags, one in brackets. This is now the situation in Armenia. Is it not
better to use name:hy tag for those?
