Oops, I has no idea. Felt bad already because I promised it many days earlier.
:)

Well, no problem, I can just add the high quality videos to the items later. If
you wanted to do the IA mirroring yourself we could transfer the items over to
your account.

The files had to be renamed to fit the filename restrictions at IA and some

2013-06-13 Thread Johannes Kröger

You can download the videos with youtube-dl if you build it from git.
http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/

It does not seem to grab the HD versions (if there are any) though,
only SD.

I had no luck passing it the original URL but it works if you give it
the URL of the iframe:

$ curl -s
http://vimeopro.com/openstreetmapus/state-of-the-map-us-2013/video/68087537
| grep -Eo 'http://player.vimeo.com/video/[0-9]+\?portfolio_id=[0-9]+'

http://player.vimeo.com/video/68087537?portfolio_id=142295

$ youtube-dl
http://player.vimeo.com/video/68087537?portfolio_id=142295
[vimeo] 68087537: Downloading webpage
[vimeo] 68087537: Extracting information
[vimeo] 68087537: Downloading H264 file at sd quality
[download] Destination: Tom MacWright - iD, a New Editor for
OpenStreetMap-68087537.mp4
[download] 27.5% of 72.74MiB at 4.07MiB/s ETA 00:12

Or short:

youtube-dl $(curl -s VIDEOURL | grep -Eo
'http://player.vimeo.com/video/[0-9]+\?portfolio_id=[0-9]+')

It would be great to make sure they are never lost by uploading them
to https://archive.org . I'd volunteer to do that unless there is an
objection.

Hi,

video takes from conferences are great, thanks for that.
Is it possible for anyone to fix bugs according the video editing?

In Frederiks talk (
http://vimeopro.com/openstreetmapus/state-of-the-map-us-2013/video/68087540

there's no audio, which leads to several minutes of speech missing.

I did not yet tried other videos, but in this one that problem occurs at

Something like this works for me on Chrome/ium/Safari:

1. Go to the video page.
2. Press command-alt-I (or equivalent on your platform) to open Developer
Tools.
3. Click the 'Network' tab.
4. Start the video playing.
5. Look for a big .mp4 file in the file listing (if you can't find it, click
the 'Size' column header to sort by size, so it's at the bottom).
6. Double-click to open in new window.
7. Command-S (or equivalent on your platform) to save.

cheers

The previous times I've used Miro I was able to get individual videos
downloaded simply by opening the File > Download from URL window (which
will be pre-populated with a URL of the video if you have copied it to your
clipboard before opening the window). By simply clicking ok it's worked for
me.

But I now tried to do the same for one of the SoTMUS videos and Miro
couldn't recognize the URL as video nor audio and couldn't start the
download. This might be a connection issue as my Net is super shitty right
now (and has been giving all sorts of never-seen-this-error-oddity-before
issues).

I'll try this later with better connection but am interested to hear if
others succeed or fail with Miro in downloading the videos.

I've successfully used Miro for downloading videos from Vimeo (and many other
video services).
It's great.

In fact, Miro's practically the only way I've been watching videos in Haiti for
nearly three years now. I would recommend it as the best video
download/management tool for especially low/varying bandwidth environments --
but great for all as it gives you a local copy library of the videos you've
watched (very easily).

A very nice thing about Miro is that you can subscribe to a channel such as an
account of Vimeo or Youtube and get notified of new videos -- or set Miro to
download them automatically.

Getmiro.com, open source, available for Windows too.

2013-06-11 Thread Alex Barth
We have just finished video uploads from this weekend’s State of the Map US
sessions. This year we've made an effort to have solid video streaming and
recording with the intention to connect more people around the ideas shared
at the conference.

If you couldn’t make it to San Francisco or if you missed a particular
session, catch up on the State of the Map US 2013 session video page or
find videos linked directly from the conference schedule.

http://openstreetmap.us/2013/06/sotmus-videos/

We're also hoping that if you're a speaker we could do you a service by
having a video of your talk. The sessions were amazing, a big thank you to
everyone who took the time to create a presentation. I'd like to encourage
everyone to share their videos in their own blog post / tweets / mails to
friends to just further spread these ideas.

Let's use these conferences to get together and talk more with each other /
write more code with each other and more. There's tons of stuff to be
figured out in OpenStreetMap.

I walk away inspired. Thank you for everyone coming out.

Re: [OSM-talk] Videos

2011-03-20 Thread davespod
Sorry this has taken so long, folks. I have been fighting my video editing
software (and/or my hardware), which has prevented me from achieving a good
a result as I wanted.

In the end I have had to settle for a lower res version, and it has some
rough edges. The worst of these is that in a few places where I have frozen
the video for voiceover, it goes very blurry. However, I had to call it a
day somewhere (if anyone has some really good hardware and Kdenlive, I am
happy to send you the file if you wish to render at a higher res).

I have focused on tracing a road from Bing, but also mentioned how to add
further imagery from the wiki.

Here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdUuZDtYEHs

I hope this is in time still to be of use to someone. If it is, please
publicise it as you see fit, as I will be away from home and offline for a
few days, so won't have time to do so myself.

Cheers

David

However, the sound quality is very poor. I have just re-recorded the
voiceover (which I have been meaning to do for a month) and also trimmed out
some of the pauses to make it about shorter. I will probably tidy it up
tonight and publish the new version.

Regards the Crisis Commons page, I am not sure what I could input. I would
happily record a video, but I do not think I am well placed to decide what
the ideal content should be. If those more centrally involved Crisis Commons
and/or HOT can decide on what it should cover and drop me a line, I am happy
to do the leg work of actually creating a video.

Best wishes

I have been in touch with CrisisCommons, via their Skype discussion, and
they are in the process of setting up a "OSM_101" page ( that will be at

only the first one is ready - POIs.

I would be happy to spend some time doing a more rough and ready video
