I just applied the same idea to Yahoo WMS image editing with some icons:

Thank you everyone for the pointers - I knew it must be possible
somehow. Doesn't look like keyboard shortcuts can be assigned but I
can live with that.

I have made one here that will do the job:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Image:Gaza-road-icon.png

So now I'm using:

... and added it to using the toolbar prefs in JOSM.

I´m also editing streets in gaza and created this preset for me:

* open your favorite text editor
* insert the following:

(you can easily add more items in this file, see
http://josm.openstreetmap.de/wiki/TaggingPresets)

* save it as gaza-preset.xml
* open JOSM
* open Preferences, go to Map Settings (3rd tab)
* add your file at the "Tagging Preset Sources"
* restart JOSM
* if you want, you can move the preset in your toolbar for quick use
  (Preferences, Toolbar costomization)

If this instruction is good enough, i can put it on the wiki page. A
icon for this preset would be nice, ideas?

You can achieve the same end by setting up a default preset. Simply envoke
the preset and add any other data to it (name of road etc) and hey presto
you way now has all those common tags you want on it. I use this method for
most objects I add instead of using the default built-in presets that come
with JOSM.

Sorry, I meant the new imagery of course. I've been doing bits around
Warrington with Yahoo pics and was thinking a generic plugin would be
useful for both.

To be clear, If anyone is adding data to Gaza then they should be
using the new 2 meter resolution post-conflict data that we purchased
from Digital Globe recently.

Access to the data has be restricted due to the licence terms (ie not
freely available on the web) but it is available to any OSM
contributor who asks Simone and can be used with JOSM. Details on the
wiki page. Ask Simone here:-

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Simone

To be clear, we are allowed to derive mapping from it legally.

The Cadastre josm plugin does something like this for the Cadastre
data. There is an option which when set will ask you before upload
whether you want to auto-tag the source for newly added items.

I'm not sure how you'd implement it, but you could do something similar
but more generic linked to the WMS plugin. Something like if a WMS
layer is active, ask whether to auto-tag the source key for newly added
items before uploading.

Java is my least favourite language, so I'm not really the person to be
thinking about implementing this - unless of course nobody else is
willing to. It shouldn't be too hard for a Java programmer, all the
necessary code is already in place it just needs reusing.

2009-02-24 Thread Chris Browet
Don't know about JOSM, but in Merkaartor, we have such things as templates.

You could tweak the default templates (xml files) to add a constant tag
"source=OSM
WikiProject Gaza" for each (or some) features you add.
