Re: [talk-au] Major road cleanup
I'm a little confused. Everywhere I've seen a park on the side of the road like that, it has used the same nodes, but not the same way. Splitting the way should not effect the park at all, except if you add nodes, in which case you'll need to add them to the park way as well. Or am I thinking of something different? Stephen 2008/12/20 Nick Hocking nick.hock...@gmail.com: Talking of bridges, I'm trying to add a bridge, over a strom water drain to a road in Canberra. However it is just about impossible since on each side of this road is a park and the parks are using parts of the road as part of their own perimeter. If I split the road in order to add a bridge, I'll mess up both parks. I could unglue the parks, move them out of the way, build the bridge, move the parks back in and maybe get JOSM validator to glue them back in. However I don't really want my name left on a construction like this. I could make the unglued parks a little smaller and then move them back and have them each have their own perimeter. Alternatively I could just delete both parks and them build them back afterwards to my liking, and risk being flamed by the original mappers. Or, I could turn the bridge 90 degrees and put it on the drain at level -1. I don't reall like this as it doesn't seem to reflect reality. Silimarly I don't really want to make the drain go through a tunnel. Or I could just leave it alone. Splitting the way should not effect the park at all Stephen, Every time I try to select the way, to split it, one of the parks get selected instead. I don't seem to be able to get to the road to add tthe two bridge end nodes, unless I move the parks out of the way. This entails ungluing them and then it is about impossible to get them back again. The street is Masson Street, running off Northbourne Avenue in central Canberra. Feel free to have a go at it and tell me how it's done. Also, (Don;t tell Liz or Darrin) but there's a mini roundabout there that I think should probably be a normal one, but I can't get at it either since it is also part of both the parks. Safe from me in Canberra, I limit my Editing to S.A. ;) Actually the the very problem you're facing here is the very reason why I ended up opting for separate parallel ways when doing things like parks, it just makes managing everything a lot easier despite the fact it's more work to setup. Like I said before in these cases there seems to be no real guidelines just preferences of people. I find (at least in OSM) the trick to selecting a way like that is to do a drag select across and area covering that particular way (and of course you'll get a few points and maybe a few other ways also) and then selecting the way you actually want to edit from the 'current selection' window. -- =b ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
Re: [talk-au] Major road cleanup
Thanks Darrin, that worked perfectly. Now can you tell ne how to convert that mini roundabout into a normal one without destroying both parks first. Since the mini node is part of both parks I would have to leave it there and build a normal roundabout around it. Now the only thing this node could legitimately become is, of course, a Roundellhund. However since OSM should match reality I would need someone to build me a real roundellhund and sneak it on there one night - any volunteers. Re: [talk-au] Major road cleanup
Eep, good luck on that, I don't think there's anywhere near as simple a way to do it. Despite my keeness to not trample on other peoples edits, this one is just a bit too daunting. And since I think the parks deserve their own boundaries anyway, I will rebuild them around the new roundabout as close to the exact shape of the originals that I can. But first, some more edits to do - had the day off work so I headed off into the countryside to recheck some streets and to build a few new roads. (Found two new just completed streets in Yass). ___ Talk-au mailing list Talk-au@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-au
