[talk-au] MapRoulette Challenges

2019-03-01 Thread Marian Poara
We've put the challenge with the wrong lane count on invisible and we will
improve the output (especially the situation where the count doesn't consider
bicycle lanes) and reupload it. Thanks for the feedback!
Best regards!

Just to let you know, your test for correct lane count doesn't appear to take
into account bicycle lanes. For example:

https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3258/task/5887988<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fmaproulette.org%2fmr3%2fchallenge%2f3258%2ftask%2f5887988&c=E,1,Ly9ZIP4Ts2GQNliyrDkGsk364TQB4eFYDLnG8gtL8qQH_WydG86bqby48pmO78nepLRO7v0TxwmbkVKMC9PyfqXY3XbhFolZGsB4EWlf8dIQnnsBog,,&typo=1>

There are two vehicle lanes and one bike lane so lane=2

see:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Lanes

and

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:lanes

The kicker is that the wiki is not clear on how you indicate how many bike
lanes there are. The lanes proposal had cycleway:lanes=* but the example on the
key:lanes page uses bicycle:lanes=* [1] and vehicle:lanes=* [2], so there isn't
an easy way to parse the tags to figure if the lane count is correct.

Maybe the thing to do is make a decision about how we want to tag cycle lanes
and then include that in the challenge instructions.

[1] This indicates the legal access for bicycles but not what the
infrastructure is eg: designated may be a lane shared with buses (UK).

[2] This doesn't make sense because vehicle=* is the access for all vehicles
(which includes bicycles). I think what they meant to use was
motor_vehicle:lanes=*

You're not alone. I tend to say away from lane mapping 'cause I think it's
going to do my head in.

Bike lanes are not counted. The wiki page
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:lanes is fairly clear. Parking
lanes get tagged with the parking:lane key
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:parking:lane

I had a go at tagging the northbound:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/672433705

and southbound:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/672433702

Needs a review because you can guarantee that you'll make a mistake if you
tag something then point everyone on the mail list at it ;-)

Also this isn't the only way to tag it, I could have used the vehicle:lanes
tag rather than the access:lanes tag to get the same outcome.

You can see how hard it would be to programmatically check if the number of
*:lanes is consistent with the lanes=* tag

:-)

I understand (I think) that we mark parking lanes but they're not counted,
but bike & bus lanes are?

So if we look at
https://www.google.com/maps/@-28.0444106,153.4348424,44m/data=!3m1!1e3
then south is parking; bike; bus; 2 x through; 1 turn = 5 lanes; while
north is parking; bike; bus; 2 x through = 4
Is that correct?

Thanks

[talk-au] MapRoulette Challenges

2019-02-22 Thread Horea Meleg
Hi everyone!

To make OpenStreetMap more navigable and accurate in guidance, Telenav mapping
team is planning to process available open data and share it with the community
using MapRoulette Challenges.

For this purpose we extracted from Perth local data, traffic signals which are
not present in OSM. You can find it here:
? Perth traffic signals: https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3723

As some of you guys may already know, we created challenges before. Some of
them are already finished and we thank your involvement and effort. We still
have many in progress, and if you want to contribute you can find those here:
? Fix dead ends in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3256
? Fix highway flip-flops in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3257
? Fix wrong lane count in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3258
? Fix highway link type in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3259
? Fix one way flip-flops in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3261
? Fix ramp destination conflicts in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3263
? Fix typos in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3264
? Bad tag values for name in Australia & New Zealand:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/challenge/3316

All necessary information can be found in challenges description. Also, for
some of them, description contains GitHub tickets for challenges.

We'd love any input and advice!

If you have any questions or comments, please let me/us know.

Thanks!

[talk-au] MapRoulette challenges

2018-11-27 Thread Martijn van Exel
Hi folks.

The Telenav team continuously runs a series of data integrity checks on OSM
data that we’re interested in. The OSM wiki has an overview [1].

Now some of these are easy fixes, and that means they make interesting
MapRoulette challenges. For example here’s a challenge that highlights
suspicious ’name’ values, such as values that contain a semicolon or comma:
https://maproulette.org/mr3/browse/challenges/3316
 It spans both Australia
and New Zealand and has a total of 271 tasks.

I invite you to try it, especially if you haven’t used MapRoulette before. We
can deploy more of them if there’s an appetite.

Anyone can create challenges on MapRoulette, so if there’s something you want
fellow mappers to look at, feel free to set it up. I am happy to assist.

Happy Mapping —

Martijn
