Hi.

I meant it will give you an idea of where to start looking (so you can
confirm by survey or aerial photo). Same goes for looking at council
published maps.

I wasn't suggesting people copy the data. We need to be very careful about
this.

I think we have to forget that data ever existed (which is somewhat sad but ah

Hi.

For the moment the cycle map still has the pre redacted data, which will
give some tips.

Many councils paint bike logos that can be seen in Bing, but not all.

Hopefully all the relations linked to from the wiki still exist, but I know
some are in bad shape.

Keeping all Sydney cycle routes in the wiki is a good idea. Updating them
there post-recovery seems reasonable too.

Cooks River and Botany Bay I deleted and then remapped red sections prior
to the redaction, and surprised how much disappeared regardless. Shouldn't
take long to recover those.

If there are any Sydney ones that need a survey, I'm happy to go for a
pedal and do it.

Re: [talk-au] Redaction recovery

2012-07-29 Thread Michael Collinson
FYI, I am working on the Cooks River Cycleway which I mapped over
2005-2006 and can do the M7 cycleway if needed. I've been able to
re-create a map of my efforts from a January 2007 planet dump so have
1,000+ streets and paths over NSW and QLD that I can re-map using Bing
imagery. Dalby, Port Macquarie, Laurieton and some coastal villages are
done. Brisbane and Toowoomba look good so I am now working on Sydney.
Mostly this is Ultimo, Pyrmont, CBD, The Rocks, Elizabeth Bay and cycle
trips around the eastern suburbs coast down to Cronulla.

May I ask armchair mappers if they would not mind mapping in streets as
highway=road instead of highway=residential? Otherwise they look "done"
and I miss them. Putting source=Bing also helps me know that you have
not ground-surveyed them and that my older data may still be good.

Good luck to everyone on the ground with the remapping, alas I no longer
live in Australia,

Mike Collinson

I'm in Marrickville, but may be able to spend time cycling around and
collecting traces in surrounding areas. Given that I haven't been an
active mapper for a while, I'll have to re-familiarise myself with the

All my previous mapping was done around Mullumbimby, and my primary

I've probably got my 305 somewhere, but no mounts for it. I only
recently gave away my 705 to my brother, and wouldn't go back to
either of them from the 800 (not as a cycling tool, anyway).
Converting from FIT won't be impossible, but more of a pain than I wish.

I wish it worked, as that's how I used to do stuff with the old Edge 705
and TCX format.

Unfortunately, even though the GPSBabel site tells me that version 1.4.2
supports FIT files with garmin_fit (for tracks at least), I get a "Input

I might have to download a converted file from ridewithgps after I

Hi.

BTW, in terms of cycle routes in Marrickville I managed to remap some in

There is a page on the wiki for Sydney Cycle Routes (pre redaction). Most

Don't worry too much about the Hume, it's almost fixed as far as i can tell.
I think I fixed the last issue affecting routing between Melbourne and Sydney
tonight. (hopefully)

South west sydney is full of broken roads.
I'm not too familiar with central Sydney but if a local could take a look, i'm
not game to get too far into that mess.

If you need a change, Adelaide is also a huge mess.

They should both be OK, with the exception of a minor hickup along the
way (which may also be fixed in the mean time), what does nead work are
the last 200k or so of the Paific Highway in to Brisbane.

In any case I would wait till OSRM has been updated (9:00 CEST
tomorrow) it makes it far easier to pinpoint gaps and other issues.

If you have spare time grab a tile from rebuild.poole.ch and trace a
bit, for example of Sydney.

PS: to all BTW does it make sense to add regions for further cities to
the task manager?

Thanks Brian. I'd say anything highway=primary or above is priority,
wherever it is. Fortunately not many of those missing from Victoria.

Hi Brian,

Good have you on board Brian. Take a look at the Hume Hwy and M5
motorway if you get a chance. Both head south west out of Sydney.

[talk-au] Redaction recovery

2012-07-24 Thread Brian Prangle
Hi All

I can give assistance retracing roads from bing concentrating on motorways
and primary roads - I've made a start in South Sydney. Let me know if
there's anywhere more urgent. I map mostly in Birmingham UK wher we're now
pretty complete and are mostly tracing buildings from bing and addressing
which is slow tedious work - so this provides a bit of welcome relief. It
also reminds me of my visit to Oz 4 years ago - might even revisit some
favourite places virtually!
