I'm going through the default osm-template.xml and noticed some interesting 
things with respect to towns/cities.

They have a number of things that will render identically in the default style 
sheet but might be used to more accurately tag places.

They have the following things:

[place] = 'city' or [place]='metropolis'

and

[place] = 'town' or [place]='large_town' or [place]='small_town'

and

[place] = 'village' or [place]='large_village'

Looks like the path=* people have been busy little bees too:

([highway] = 'bridleway' or ([highway] = 'path' and [horse] = 'designated'))
([highway] = 'footway' or ([highway] = 'path' and [foot] = 'designated'))
[highway] = 'cycleway' or ([highway] = 'path' and [bicycle] = 'designated')

Also platforms might render by default now, not sure if they trapped all cases.
