Re: [talk-au] Hume and Hovel Walking Track in the Bargo SF

Ok. Think most of this is done from the view point of LPI Base Map and
Strava.

Where they coexist I have chosen to use Strava and it might be better
then LPI.

I have added a ferry route from the LPI Base Map to the H&H ... probably
the low water route.

There are a few sections that could be joined easily using existing roads.
There is a section I could add as it leads past a camp site.
I have left these out as those who use the track can easily add the
detail as they find it rather than rely on my 'suspicions'.

I will probably leave the H&H alone for others to contemplate. There are
a lot of tracks for me to add in the Bargo SF.

I am inclined to go with the strava as that has more than one
source/person (I hope). Where that is lacking then the LIP data.

I am depreciating the present OSM data as it comes from one person
and no source is stated .. I think it is an indication - better than
a total lack of data, but there are now better sources.

- I think leaving all 3 is not helpful. But
what to remove and and why is a judgement call that would be made
from one area to another.

I mapped the area around Burrinjuck Dam during the last big drought. So
I've got the track going well out into where the water is now, and to
where walkers got on and off the boat at that time.

Looks odd on the hiking map with the dam showing as full, especially at
the southern end, on the Goodradigbee River to the north of Wee Jasper.

There are many tracks that 'go into' lakes Not worried by them.

Here is an example
Way: 285828626 - a track source Bing

If you compare it to the LPI Base map zoomed in to a scale of 100m in
JOSM you will

find that path heading north about halfway along the track.
Around -35.75557/148.16232

I thing the H&H is the path shown on LPI ... not the present OSM shown
route.
If LPI is correct and you followed OSM .. there might be a fair bit of
true bushwalking.

To further confuse things .. Strava shows paths/tracks used in that area
... but not the LPI path nor the OSM H&H trail.

I am inclined to;
map the LPI data .. as the H&H where I think it is appropriate.
map the strava stuff ... as a track.
remove the present OSM H&H where it looks to be replaced by either the
OSM or strava data.

But I am still thinking about it, I don't like removing stuff!

My BiL was down Jindabyne area on holidays last year & one day they took a
drive around the lake. At one spot they drove down to the lake edge, but
their GPS was saying they were actually underwater!

Thanks

I did the original entry of the section from Yass through Wee Jasper to
Brindabella Road years ago. The data came from my Garmin 60 CSx
handheld GPS.

My 60 Cx is still going ... not buy another until this one gives up.
Trying to rig up a solar charger for it - charges the AA batteries
within the unit and provides power to the unit.
This way I don't have to carry around a AA battery charger nor extra
batteries.
May not fully charge the batteries but good enough for me - a simple
system.

Some areas had heavy tree cover, and cliffs nearby. So the accuracy
might have blown out to ± 10 metres in a few places.

That section shows up on the hiking map here:

Someone else did the work south from Brindabella Road.

Tried contacting them .. no response as yet.
