Julien, Thanks for the effort you have put into this already! You have probably contemplated this, but the proposed date is of course reason for superstitious people to stay away from Liege :) I like the basic idea to do an informal meeting idea, anyways. For me, going to Liege from Antwerp poses some problems, but opens up some perspectives. I am thinking of staying the night over in Liege and doing some mapping on saturday, before returning. Are there more people interested into this? Hallo Ben,
Het leuke aan het feit dat dit script nu in JOSM kan draaien, is dat het
mogelijk is om een edit box weer te geven waarin de oude situatie staat en
ook wat hij ervan wil maken. Als je op Cancel drukt, wordt er niks gewijzigd
en anders is het nog mogelijk om de voorgestelde naam te wijzigen voordat er
op OK gedrukt wordt.
Soms zit het script er dus inderdaad naast, maar dan kan er nog ingegrepen
worden.

can make mistakes very easily with them.

These are obviously meant for French places, but since I don't see some way to
make the distinction: never run this script on a Dutch place. I also wonder
how safe the "R." is in a French place, since it can easily be the
abbreviation of a first name.

I was glad Jan-Willem showed up. The result is a python plugin which can
correct spelling from within JOSM. I just corrected 264 street names around
Aarschot with it:

Somebody had some trouble finding the Shift key on his/her keyboard. This
spelling checker also works for French street names. It still needs some
refinement. Now it asks the same question over and over again for each
segment and it should be made aware of the language a correction applies
for. For the moment it only checks name and not name:nl/name:fr. But the
real message is that Jan-Willem helped me over the initial difficulties of
scripting the JOSM API with Python.
So I'm really glad we met yesterday evening!
