It flickers a bit, but it sure beats having to change resolution all the
time. I had stopped doing that though. Simply setting AGIV it to the
highest resolution possible and having Bing tiles in another layer
underneath.

The
  bug I mentioned before is just reported to be fixed in JOSM
5969.
How, I don't know, just that someone wrote "Thank you!".
I'd like to hear your comments about that fix as I'm somehow away
from JOSM right now.
