[Talk-ca] Motorways tagging at ferry terminals/boarders

2011-10-18 Thread Paul Norman
There are two different and conflicting ways of tagging motorways at ferry
terminals. The first of these, as shown at the Horseshoe Bay terminal
http://osm.org/go/WJQnahqdV- is of having one way where there are many lanes
and tagging as highway=motorway. The second, shown at Swartz Bay
http://osm.org/go/WJEP9q90r- is drawing the lanes as highway=service and
terminating the motorway when it stops being one.

The same issue applies at border crossings, except for the ones I've looked
at the choice is between highway=motorway and highway=primary.

I have reservations about tagging highway=motorway on a section of road that
has speed bumps, stop signs and traffic lights.

Re: [Talk-ca] Old CanVec versions

I could use 092G and 092H. Is there any possibility of getting them hosted
on a generally accessible server? It's often useful to be able to check if a
problem was with the source data or an import.

I've got a copy of v6 on my network. Did you want one sheet or all of it?

Does anyone know where I can find old CanVec versions? I was looking into

&lon=-63.629537&zoom=18&layers=M which I was pointed to on IRC and has a
footway and a track running over each other, but not sharing nodes and both
were from CanVec 6.0. CanVec 8.0 only has the footway.

I prefer the Swartz Bay scheme because it is more reflective of the
reality on the ground. I was just looking at these terminals last
night!

Speaking of ferry terminals, I've been adding more detail to the
Tsawwassen ferry terminal. http://goo.gl/2vzKx There is a situation
where there is an overhead walkway, which I've mapped as a building
with layer = 1, with some roads underneath, then on top of the walkway
is an elevated road (layer 2) leading to the upper vehicle loading
ramp. How shall I fix it so the building is above the road?

I've had other situations where roads pass under or through buildings
and it never renders the way I like, such as hotel entrances and
vehicle inspection buildings.
