[Talk-ca] Looking for competent OSM editors to improve the map on Toronto area and Toronto PATH

2015-08-12 Thread George Silva
Hello everyone,

I have a few employers who are dedicating part of their funding to improve
the map on Toronto and Toronto PATH, specially. This is a funded effort.

I've tried to make some edits, but it's too hard for me, being a foreigner
and not being on Toronto.

The main thing here is to improve entrances and footways in that area.

More details, please contact Darren Jones, at dar...@crosspathsolutions.com

Thanks

Check out:
http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=1a66e03bb8d1e310VgnVCM1071d60f89RCRD
It's their open data portal which also includes the building address
shapefile(not sure how accurate this is, I know Ottawa's has about 30%
errors (overlapping duplicate nodes, misplaced nodes))
Address shape file(can be open in JOSM with opendata plugin):

But in the data portal there's all sort of information, paths, etc

Re: [Talk-ca] Looking for competent OSM editors to improve the map on Toronto area and Toronto PATH

2015-08-12 Thread Kevin Farrugia
Hey everyone,

During the winter/spring I was updating the PATH when I was frequently
taking it to/from home, but I've taken a break since it's nice outside (I
hope that's understandable!). The PATH is a bit of a beast to update
because it's invisible to imagery and GPS and, in many parts, poorly
signed. Although the challenge of mapping from memory is part of the fun
for me :)

George & Darren, what are the main things you're looking to have us add?
Is the biggest priority for you the detailed footways, access points, and
the proper connections between the two (elevators, steps, escalators)? I'm
guessing shops are of secondary importance to the wayfinding/routing
portion of the app?

Thanks,

-Kevin F (Kevo)

2015-08-12 Thread George Silva
Hello Kevin,

The main thing is indeed the many entrances that the PATH has. We have some
of that mapped (indicated) over some maps, that might help.

Talk to Darren, so he and his associate can decide the best way to proceed.
