[Talk-GB] Sustrans National Cycle Network Mileposts and Art

2009-06-08 Thread Andy Robinson (blackadder-lists)
Sustrans GIS department has permitted OSM to have the list of their
Millennium Mileposts (and also Artwork - coming later) that exists on the
National_Cycle_Network. The full listing can be found in the wiki table
linked below. Sustrans do not have accurate locations for their mileposts
and art so are interested in data gathered by OSM contributors.

I'll try to get all the ones on the northern half of NCN 7 the weekend
after next.
Do we have an existing tagging scheme for these?

ncn_milepost = rowe / mccoll / mills / dudgen

like:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/53497544

They appear on the cycle map with icons according to the type. There's
already quite a lot in there, but not with sustrans refs (I don't even
know if these can be found on the mileposts themselves). There's now
one or two that have had sustrans_ref added :-)

You can see several here:

That seems to be just mile posts. What about tagging the artwork?

What about linear artwork? This one
   http://cambridge.cyclestreets.net/location/10548/
stretches out along the path for several hundred metres (and the solar
system artwork on the York to Selby path is placed intermittently over a
long distance I believe).

Yes, need to think about how the artwork is tagged. Let's see what Sustrans
send me in terms of detail. That will help suggest tagging.

It's a good point. If the refs aren't on the posts, how are we to
tell MP814, MP815 and MP816 apart - they're all on the wiki page as
type Rowe, and location Chelmsford-Essex. Or can we choose?
(Similarly MP106 and MP603 that are both Mills in Hatfield, three
Mills posts in March, five Rowe three Mills and two McColl in
Peterborough and I'm sure many other similar examples).

With more thought, if the refs aren't on the posts then we can just
combine the rows in the wiki table and have multiple IDs and
multiple node links if the post type and location text match. I find
myself wanting to dash out and check a post now to see if I can find
any references on it.

No, the refs are not on the posts anywhere as far as I know, but I have the
approx locations of the mileposts from Sustrans so I can confirm the correct
order along a route if anyone needs assistance. I've just sorted out the
ones in and south of Stratford-upon-Avon in this manner.
