[Talk-GB] Warwickshire County Council releases aerial imagery

2014-01-14 Thread Brian Prangle
Hi everyone

Warwickshire County Council have released 3 sets of aerial imagery under
OGL. You can find them here *http://wppgeog3/gs/Aerial_Photography/wms
http://wppgeog3/gs/Aerial_Photography/wms* . JOSM users just add to your
imagery layers under preferences. I don't know how to add it to Potlatch,
not being a heavy user.

The best set is from 2012/13 at 12.5cm resolution which is both more up to
date and more accurate than Bing. Naturally the imagery does not stop at
the boundary so some of you in neighbouring counties might find this useful
- not sure how far the imagery stretches - I'm too busy remapping inside
Warwickshire using the imagery!

We should acknowledge the source when tagging - I suggest Warwicks CC
aerial imagery OGL2

Hi Brian! This looks fantastic and will be really useful for Wikipedia too
(Aerial views of significant buildings etc). However, the link you've
provided obviously only works for mapping. Is there a regular HTML-based
'homepage' the describes the aerial imagery collection etc, that you know
of?

All the best,

Interestingly there is no mention of OSM in the terms despite the fact that it
is one of the base layers used.

Re: [Talk-GB] Royal Mail Parcelforce delivery offices

2014-01-14 Thread Gregory
I think amenity=post_office has a specific meaning in the UK and we
shouldn't be mapping the Royal Mail depots as offices.

There are always some confusing cases.
I've gone past a Royal Mail depot and Post Office that are attached. I'm
guessing most town centre depots have been closed down and only Post
Offices exist now. The sorting office has a separate entrance (I suspect
only open in the morning while most people are at work). I haven't mapped
the amenity=post_depot as my battery has usually died from earlier mapping
from the bus trip (eventually I'll get there), feel free to do so from
aerial imagery.

Are these amenity=post_office, or something else?

If there is a facility that allows the general public access to collect
or send mail then I'd consider amenity=post_office to be appropriate.

They're not Post Offices, though. Post Office (capitalised) has a very
specific meaning in the UK, with more services than just posting letters.
It depends what we want amenity=post_office to mean but I'd say at a
minimum without further tags it should mean you can actually post
something. If someone goes to a Local Delivery Office with a parcel to
post they will be in for a surprise.

I agree, we need a different tag for delivery offices compared to post
offices which are significantly different. If a lay person searches for a
post office they need to get what they expect to be a post office. I’ve
recently come across someone who was essentially saying OSM is confusing
due to the problems with the located in parts of the Nominatim search
results being wrong. A similar thing will happen here.

Delivery Offices will pretty much only accept prearranged parcels and
 pickups.

The pickup of parcels from Post Offices is a fairly recent change.

Companies such as Collect Plus and myHermes operate through newsagents and
smaller supermarkets, thus I’d say it’s a property of the shop rather than
being an amenity itself within the shop as it’s the same counter that you
buy stuff from where you drop off and collect the parcels.

It has, Jonathan Moules of Warwickshire County Council came to a

confirmed in email to several of us that it is OGL v2.0.

That's great but I guess we're going to need at least that email put

Grant,

There must be a bust in the original URL as WCC were I think proposing to
release a server link that would just provide access to the Aerial Imagery.
Need to wait for Brian to clarify with Jonathan.

[Talk-GB] Warwickshire County Council releases aerial imagery

2014-01-14 Thread Rob Nickerson

Hi All,

As noted the http://wppgeog3/gs/Aerial_Photography/wms link will not work
on the public web (it's a internal link for Warwickshire CC only as it has
no top level domain such as .com). Whilst we are waiting for Brian to
get an updated link that provides only access to the 3 aerial imagery
layers that we are allowed to use, I will answer some of the other
questions raised:

   - This is available under the OGL v2.0 (as confirmed in person and by
email to several OSM members in the West Midlands)
   - Warwickshire CC are hoping to create a web-page with more details in
the near future (ideally this week; depends on the web team). That should
   cover the licensing in detail
   - I had informal conversations about getting open licence access to some
of the other layers that WCC have and will follow these up in due course.
If you have an urgent desire to use something (e.g. street lights, bridge
   restrictions) then let me know.

Regards,
Rob

p.s. I'm not subscribed to this list so apologies that my replies are not
properly threaded.

Oh sorry, I've just realised that Grant's link is fine. I should read (and

Just pop this in JOSM's +WMS dialogue in the setting menu.
