[Talk-GB] 'historic' county boundaries added to the database

2018-08-07 Thread Dave F

Hi

User smb1001 is currently adding county boundary relations with
boundary=historic through out the UK:

http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/ASf (May take a while to run)

Changeset discussion:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/61410203

From the historic wiki page
"historic objects should not be mapped as it is outside of scope of OSM"

Frankly I don't buy his comments. The problem is where to stop? Do we
have ever iteration of every boundary change since time immemorial? Then
what about buildings, roads, or coastline changes etc? The database
would become unmanageable for editors (it already is if zoomed out too
far).

I think these edits should be revoked.

Cheers
DaveF

[Talk-GB] FHRS Errors was Re: Updates to 'Survey Me!' tool

2018-08-07 Thread Andrew Black
I did manage to get the council to remove a long closed pub from FHRS.

I have cases where both old and businesses are listed. Worried that an
armchair mapper will revert an update to OSM.

It should be noted that many pharmacies appear in FHRS data, often with
"Exempt" status.

I have spotted this logo on the Mid-counties co-op on the Welshpool road, from
memory it is green.

Midcounties are also adopting the "new" cloverleaf Co-op logo in many
places, while their Chipping Norton shop, curiously, uses the Co-operatives
UK logo. There's so much overlap (particularly between Midcounties and the
Co-operative Group) that they really need to be surveyed to find the
operator, which I agree would be useful information.

Shipston-on-Stour has two Co-ops literally three doors away from each other
- one Midcounties, one Co-operative Group (ex-Somerfield).

Re: [Talk-GB] New Ghosts Set and Survey Me Auto-Location Feature

2018-08-07 Thread Philip Barnes
I have recently been thinking we should be tagging co-op shops with the
operator tag.

Until recently I had seen it as a geographical thing, ie. It is in Shropshire
so it must be a mid-counties. Mid-counties use the same green branding that
Central England use in Leicestershire.

Recently new blue branded co-op shops have started to appear, some have changed
and at least one has opened in direct competition with an existing Mid-counties.

Re: [Talk-GB] Updates to 'Survey Me!' tool

2018-08-07 Thread Gregrs

Hi Colin,

Oh and another where the fhrs listing has the wrong postcode!

Please add the wrong postcode using not:addr:postcode and add a note to
say that the FHRS postcode disagrees e.g.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/391878897. The comparison tool will
recognise this and will no longer list it as a postcode mismatch.

Thanks,
Greg

Re: [Talk-GB] Updates to 'Survey Me!' tool

2018-08-07 Thread Gregrs

Hi Colin,

I know of a local business which has closed but is still listed in
gregrs tool. What can I do about it?

Thanks for your question. If the building is still unused, perhaps you
could leave the fhrs:id tag in place and add a disused: prefix (see
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:disused:). If the building has
changed use, you could tag with old:fhrs:id. The comparison tool won't
currently recognise this but there is a feature request open
(https://github.com/gregrs-uk/python-fhrs-osm/issues/50) and it will
serve as a warning to other mappers.

Thanks,
Greg

A quick flick through their various websites suggests only:

Midcounties: https://www.midcounties.coop/stores/
Lincolnshire: https://www.lincolnshire.coop/storefinder
Channel Islands: https://www.channelislands.coop/je/opening-hours/

East of England are selling theirs:
