Re: [Talk-GB] Hampshire: Volunteers needed for testing FixMyPaths, a rights of way problem reporting app

2012-11-21 Thread Robert Norris

I encountered a tree blocking[1] the byway along Stancomb Broad Lane back on
the 1st July this year.

Which I thought about reporting but wasn't bothered / didn't know how - I
guessed a local person would do it in time.

Now, I'm not sure if it was actually onĀ  'Bighton 7' or on the track further
along to the East as indicated by Freemap.

Some where along it anyway[2]

[1] Only passable by an able bodied pedestrian between branches - i.e. good
thing I didn't have my MTB that day!

What no permalink option on the map?

What does the search actually search?

Is there a list of open ROW problems?

How many are there (i.e. display this somewhere)

I think I came across one by chance - but can't find it again - it just said
'broken' on a pin popup

Might be worth saying reported issues are shown as 'pins' on the maps if that
is the case.

Might be worth moving all/some of the gumpf/disclaimer/key from the top of the
map to blue panel on the left - since this panel has got a lot of wasted space.

HTH.

As you probably know, Hampshire County Council released its rights of way
 data in the summer.
I have been developing a site (OpenHants, www.free-map.org.uk/openhants)
which makes use of this data and also allows users to report path problems,
which are sent on to the council.

Sorry, there was a typo in this URL. It should be:

 www.free-map.org.uk/hampshire/

(though the first URL now works as well)

2012-11-20 Thread Rob Nickerson
Hi Nick,

Fantastic work. Looking forward to seeing the Android app.

Unfortunately I don't get down to Hampshire that often any more so can't be
of much help. I did however have the please of meaning one of the gents
from Hampshire CC (annoyingly I can't find where I wrote his name down) at
a recent city camp event up in Coventry. Chatting to him, it was apparent
how keen they were for such a tool to be made available.

Cheers,
Rob

p.s. Are your plans to expand this across other parts of the UK.

[Talk-GB] Hampshire: Volunteers needed for testing FixMyPaths, a rights of way problem reporting app

2012-11-19 Thread Nick Whitelegg
Hi,

As you probably know, Hampshire County Council released its rights of way data
in the summer. I have been developing a site (OpenHants,
www.free-map.org.uk/openhants) which makes use of this data and also allows
users to report path problems, which are sent on to the council.

I have also developed an Android app, FixMyPaths (see
https://github.com/nickw1/Freemap/tree/master/android/openhants) which allows
users to report problems in the field; it logs the data in my own database
(exposed via an API) and sends the problem report on to the council. With the
growing number of councils opening up their data I'm aiming to expand it beyond
Hampshire.

What would be good though is to do some more testing of the app. Is there
anyone in or near Hampshire that would be willing to volunteer testing it out
(I will have an apk ready by then) in the field in one or other of the first
two weekends in December?

Thanks,
Nick
