Re: [Talk-gb-westmidlands] Fingerposts

2020-07-16 Thread Philip Barnes
I must admit that I have never thought of mapping one, we tend to just
use them to confirm the legal status of a right of way in much the same
as we map speedlimits, not the signs.

Probably map them as man_made:signpost or something similar.

They are a very common everyday object so would not fall into the
tourism category.

It depends on the type which is missing from the tagging, the most common
(GATSO) only work in one direction and read the rear plate.

As an aside I did read today that one area is turning it front facing cameras
around because they have finally realised motorcycles don't have front plates.

I would second Ironbridge, but may be slightly biased. There is a lot to be
mapped there and as you say, its not easy from aerial imagery.

I am hoping to give the river loop in Shrewsbury a try at 25cm.

I have an Etrex 20, which I have had for nearly 2 years. A great little

The Etrex 30 is the same, but with an barometric altimeter, not
convinced by the value of this as a walker/mapper.

Re: [Talk-gb-westmidlands] Summer Tour

Hi Brian
I have not managed to get to the pub I mentioned in Wellington, but
after some thought the area I believe really needs a mapping blitz is
Oakengates, http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/52.69476/-2.45138

This is a town centre that has received very little attention. A quick
glance in the GBG suggests the Crown Inn, which has free wifi,
http://www.crown.oakengates.net/

Probably too late for this summer, but maybe one to put in for next
year?

It has a station and is on the Birmingham-Shrewsbury line, although it
is only served by London Midland services.

I am in North Shropshire, it certainly looks like this area was done in
summer 2012. Wem town square is now on the imagery, looks great. Can do
some improvements with this. The imagery is alignment with the old
imagery varies across the town slightly different, will have a bike ride
around with GPS to ensure I have the correct alignment before I start
nudging things.

The imagery clearly changes at the Welsh border in this part of the
world. Still excellent resolution but a different tint.
