Re: [Talk-ht] google earth to map survivors...
You know in reading the article, it sounds like they're using Google Earth (the application) to view a kml of camps/data over imagery. I don't think OSM is the answer for what they're doing--even the haiticrisismap doesn't have those sort of kml in it, as far as I can tell, but maybe there are other sites that mash things up? The article doesn't talk about Google MapMaker or roads data at all. I *am* curious about what data is used on the maps in the Mapping and GIS section of http://www.cccmhaiti.info/, which was referenced in the article. Re: [Talk-ht] google earth to map survivors...
Mikel, On a similar topic, there is this article from BBC news: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8543671.stm which makes no mention of OSM, although it includes a screen capture from Ushahidi / Haiti, with OSM in the background. It apparently inspired 2 articles, in french (Le Monde) and spanish, that are also on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2010_Chile_earthquake/Press (I sent a reaction to the 1st one, and suggested on talk-cl that they do so for the 2nd one). It might be good to remind both BBC and its journalist, and Ushahidi, about OSM licence (nicely of course), maybe taking this opportunity to let them know more about OSM...
