Re: [OSM-talk-ie] Talk-ie Digest, Vol 70, Issue 6

2015-03-25 Thread Brian Hollinshead
Hi Dave et al,
Nice to see the up to date coverage. I see Dublin is stuck around 52%. Help
is needed in Fingal for Townlands, I had added some and switched to
finishing South Dublin and Dun Laoghaire. Am running out of stamina (have
been doing EDs as well), so lest anybody shied away from Fingal because
they saw I had been gently active there please return - all are welcome, it
is a nearly open canvas.

 Hi all,

 So there's been amazing progress on the townland mapping with more and
 more new people pitching in which means there are many days when
 people are mapping townlands up to and above a rate of 100 a day. That
 is just nuts! In a good way :D

 To give an indication, in the last 7 days, 560+ townlands were added
 by 12 different people.and thats a quiet week!. There have been
 weeks where we have come close to 1,000+ townlands mapped.

 Anyway, on to the numbers. We broke 40% total coverage a few days ago
 for a total of

 24,313 townlands
 624 electoral divisions
 579 civil parishes
 99 baronies

 Looking at it from a county by county perspective, it breaks down as
 follows

 == Completed ==

 Antrim
 Carlow
 Fermanagh
 Laois
 Longford
 Offaly
 Sligo
 Westmeath
 Wexford
 Wicklow

 == In Progress == including % complete

 Cavan - 27%
 Clare - 38%
 Derry - 13%
 Down - 68%
 Dublin - 52%
 Galway - 57%
 Kildare - 50%
 Leitrim - 48%
 Meath - 89%
 Roscommon - 31%
 Tyrone - 37%

 == Not Being Mapped (by province) == including % complete

 * Ulster *
 Armagh 0%
 Donegal - 16%
 Monaghan - 2%

 *Connacht *
 Mayo - 10%

 * Leinster *
 Kilkenny - 3%
 Louth - 0%

 * Munster *
 Cork - 0%
 Kerry - 3%
 Limerick - 0%
 Tipperary - 3%
 Waterford - 0%

 What does all this mean? Well there is still great progress being made
 all over the country on a more or less even basis with the exception
 of Munster. If there are people on this list interested in helping to
 get Munster going a bit more, please feel free to check out the wiki
 page which provides all the info you will need.

Re: [OSM-talk-ie] rectifying map

2015-03-25 Thread Dave Foley
It doesn't seem too bad to me, it's hard to get the map to exactly match in all
points. Obviously maps with mostly water will be harder to align but even on
inland maps I still refer back to Bing aerial photos to make edits and use the
townland maps mainly for names and to get a rough idea of the boundaries.

 Subject: [OSM-talk-ie] rectifying map

 Hi everyone
 I am really struggling to rectify a map (05-05 SW) as it is so misaligned i
 can’t add many control points - i have 11 but one is in the ocean to see if
 it would help match the maps
 I have been adding and deleting control points all day to try and get a
 erasable coverage but the map has been doing some peculiar warping.
 It is mainly ocean so its hard to get a good spread and there are not many
 roads to match -
 should i keep trying to find vaguely matched control points or is there some
 technique to overcome this problem
 thanks
 c.
