2019-03-09 Thread Brian Hollinshead
I have finished the Dublin Counties. They can be viewed at
overpass-turbo.eu/s/GNq or by entering

political_division=local_const and existed=2014- or existed=2019- in
"County Dublin"into the wizard.

Alternatively at u.osmfr.org/m/299562
For anyone not familiar with umap,

You can drag the image and zoom using the plus or minus or with the mouse
wheel.
The LEA name will appear when you hover over an area.
Using the 'disc layers' icon on left you can switch different layers on-off.
Using the 'paper layers' icon you can vary the appearance of the background
map.

These are all done now bar in Cork and possibly Dublin counties but don’t
import them to maps.openstreetmap.ie quite yet.

Could someone update us on Dublin, we do not have an official new Cork City
boundary yet and cannot do the MD/LEA updates in and around Cork City yet.

Unfortunate precedent in Meath

They have split EDs between 2 MDs in the cases of Ratoath, Ashbourne and
Laytown-Bettystown EDs.

Until now townlands nested perfectly in EDs which turn nested perfectly In
MDs. This is not now the case.

I doubt that new ‘part’ EDs will be created to reflect this split so we live
with it for the next 5 years.

[OSM-talk-ie] New Local Electoral Areas 2018

2019-02-18 Thread Cormac O Murchú
Colm is correct, the canonical data is always the SI. The only difference I
found is that

The PDF report recommends EG Westport(sp)-(sp)Belmullet MD where the SI
orders that Westport-Belmullet (sic) MD is created, I used no spaces
anyway. I have found no other differences.

Pick ‘your’ County from this complete list of the Sis, remember that none
have been published for Cork City and County yet. They are imminent.

http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/ResultsTitle.html?q=local+electoral+2018

I did do West Cork MD along with Bantry-West Cork and Skiberreen-West Cork
LEAs, the ones with all the islands. I will pause Cork there and let someone
check them after the Sis issue for Cork.

I left the old ones there MD and LEA , they have a name ending (2014-2019)

Tag added existed=2014-2019 if MD or LEA is deprecated, a lot of new LEAs
and also MD name changes there too.

New MD or LEA existed=2019-

Continuing MD or LEA existed=2014-

place=region tag added to every MD (admin_level=8) as there are far too many
Tuam ‘s in Nominatim.

Cannot do Cork City as we will need a proper boundary and townlands and EDs
are to be split properly so that an admin_level 10 nests inside a 9 8 and 7

Townlands transfer to the city.

We need a non generalised boundary to do this properly.

Where a country ED is split the new one ( in the City) will also require an
LAU2 code from the CSO.

They haven't responded so far (have emailed them twice) so if anyone has
any contacts in the city / county councils, please give them a poke.

Thanks!

[OSM-talk-ie] New Local Electoral Areas 2018

2019-02-13 Thread Colm Moore
Hi,

It is useful to have the current electoral areas. Putting the date on them
indicates (accuracy aside) they are the current ones.

Having past ones listed (and dated) means that one can avoid the situation of
someone finding an old source and editing the current boundaries to fit
historical boundaries.

It is also nice to have and to be able to understand how boundaries have
evolved.

As an aside, when roads get realigned, statutory boundaries do **not** change,
so users should be careful in such circumstances.

Hi,

Can I ask a stupid question or two

Why do we need to reflect previous ed boundaries?

Is OSM the right place to store that info?

Could someone reuse that data later in the same manner they use the current
boundary data?

Is it just a "nice to have" bit of info?

Why do we need to reflect previous ed boundaries?

Is OSM the right place to store that info?

Could someone reuse that data later in the same manner they use the current

Hi,

Those two seem fine, although the names of two the constituent EDs are slightly
different between the SI and OSM,

SI: Dun Laoghaire-Sallynoggin West
OSM: Dun Laoghaire Sallynoggin West ED

SI: Dun Laoghaire-Sandycove
OSM: Dún Laoghaire-Sandycove ED

I would add the year to the name=* and alt_name=* fields. You could add a link

There are two orders each for Louth, Meath and Wicklow, which amend some names.

Some areas have remained unchanged while others have had EDs moved from one
LEA to a neighbouring one. For instance Dun Laoghaire LEA lost
Foxrock-Beechpark ED which was moved to Blackrock LEA.

I have today added these to OSM and before adding any others I would like
feedback on the Tagging I used. please see
openstreetmap.org/relation/9316769 and 770.

Where an LEA remains unchanged how should we change the tagging to reflect
both 2014 and 2018 valid dates and the two sources SI 46 2014 and SI 615
2018.

I welcome your advices
