Re: [OSM-talk-ie] OSM at LoveDataWeek 2020 - Maynooth University
Hi Peter, Sounds great. Andrei Kashcha has created some cool tools around OSM. For example a tool to generate the road network for any location: https://anvaka.github.io/city-roads/ That is pure OSM. He also has a ridge plot map generator: https://anvaka.github.io/peak-map/ Just OSM for the mapping, it uses MapBox elevation API for the plotting. Still pretty cool. -Heikki On Sun, Feb 9, 2020 at 1:59 PM Donal Hunt wrote: > I'm the sure the mobility forum and cycling campaign would be happy for a > mention about the Cork cycling map that was launched last year. Re: [OSM-talk-ie] OSM at LoveDataWeek 2020 - Maynooth University
This is good news Peter, and good luck with your talk. Some big scale statutory or state funded re-users are the National Transport Authority, the IPA, Met Eireann, Irish Seismic Network, and The Marine Institute. Some big scale commercial re-users are Snapchat, Ancestry.com. For a list of more of the latter see the wiki site where it mentions "List of OSM based services". If you don't mind mentioning it an important point arises for your audience. OSM is like an ecosystem, there are many fine examples of re-use. However, without the love and diligence of the OSM community of contributors, none of these things would be possible. ___ Talk-ie mailing list Talk-ie@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ie
Re: [OSM-talk-ie] OSM at LoveDataWeek 2020 - Maynooth University
I'm the sure the mobility forum and cycling campaign would be happy for a mention about the Cork cycling map that was launched last year. The base map used OpenStreetMap data before the additional landmarks and highlighted routes were added. https://transportandmobilityforum.com/cork-cycle-map/ Donal On Sat, 8 Feb 2020 at 14:51, Peter Mooney wrote: > Hello everyone, > > I'm giving a general overview talk about OpenStreetMap in Maynooth > University next week, as part of Love Data Week 2020. Umap is another good one to use for those who want to overlay additional data / information onto a base map On Sat 8 Feb 2020, 14:51 Peter Mooney, wrote: > Hello everyone, > > I'm giving a general overview talk about OpenStreetMap in Maynooth > University next week, as part of Love Data Week 2020. [OSM-talk-ie] OSM at LoveDataWeek 2020 - Maynooth University
Hello everyone, I'm giving a general overview talk about OpenStreetMap in Maynooth University next week, as part of Love Data Week 2020. Details are here [1]. I only have an hour so I want to show attendees what kinds of applications OpenStreetMap is being used for in Ireland and beyond. This will include quick examples of downloading data, using Turbo Overpass online, and a very basic map using Leaflet. I'll be showing the work of OSM IE (example the recent Kilkenny work), Townlands, Hieki's visualisations, etc. If you have any other really interesting examples of OSM use which would be good for a general audience, please let me know and I'd be delighted to include it. I will make my slides openly available in ODP format afterwards, if they are useful for someone else.
