[Talk-in] Off line osm urgently required

2016-04-02 Thread Nagarjuna G.
Hello folks,

We are about to finalize a school server that is going to be used in about
thousands schools this year. Can any of you help build a docker instance of
osm for this project?

I saw some osm docker files in github, but wanted to check of any of you have
experience with this?

We are closing the server image before 8th of this month.

Do we really need the tiles? If they give an API service, wouldn't it be
enough?

We should be clear of exactly what to ask.

I an exploring to get the satellite images from Bhuvan. It is difficult to
get them if the server is not part of govt.

We did a trial mapping of trees on an instance of opentreemap at
http://trees.metastudio.org/mumbai yesterday. We mapped about 50 trees, and
will be doing many more during this month.

the Procedure that we followed, one hour of field on the street with
fieldpapers
to mark the positions of the trees, and then we returned to the lab and mapped
the trees with name and address.

Will update the documentation on the site and will be keeping the site ready
for the use of several volunteers who will join from 13th onwards.

yes. give me a week, the website is getting ready. We will be starting this
project with a question to investigate. The question is to know the serial
killer of rain treen in Mumbai. About 400 trees died in the last 3-4 years.
So, initially we will be mapping all the rain trees in the city and its
suburbs. We will have about a hundred volunteers and we expect to finish rain
tree mapping by the end of January. And the investigation will continue.

This is not a show stopper now, but eventually it will be good to have the
information. I will not focus on this issue at all. This is just to say,
what do we need in OSM.

I looked at this. We need to record some additional type of information.
e.g. if there is any pest found on the tree. name of the pest: This is
important for us since the rain trees are dying because of a pest called meal
worm. The other thing is to note if the tree is situated at a cemented land
or open land.

If one of you can help getting this extra information, or tell us how to
pursue this with OSM, that will be good. Or else, if you guys can setup a
separate server for this, that is always the best.

btw, what happened to the idea of setting up of a osm.in?

[Talk-in] mapping trees

2014-12-12 Thread Nagarjuna G
Hi

We are beginning a project starting 6th of Jan to map trees in Mumbai, and
later we will spread this to other areas in the country as well. Some
questions regarding the preparedness of OSM for this purpose.

1. when we add a tree, we also add its name etc. however, this information
does not appear. The tree dot is visible but does not have any info. One has
to go to edit interface to check the information added. How to go about this?

2. under the type of trees, we would like to add some more types. is this
possible? how to go about doing this?

any help will be appreciated.

Thanks so much Prateek, Naveen and Ravi. I will first make a csv file with
schoolname, district, pincode. We will keep updating this with lat.long,
possibly from the above link given by Ravi.

After this I will attend to the challenge of shape files for each pincode area.
Initially we will keep the schools randomly around the lat/long,and then get
it corrected through some citizen science engagement.

2014-07-14 Thread Nagarjuna G

Do we have the area maps of the pincodes in India?

We want to create a layer of public schools in India on OSM. we have the data
of schools (1.3 million schools). We have only the postal address. Can we
place the schools through a script, given the address of the schools?
