The GPS traces are very raw data. They are just a collection of points, and usually, a large collection of points. To create OSM information (such as road structure) one needs to see these raw traces in a larger context. You can use an aerial photography source as a reference to get this larger context. The trouble with that in India, however, is that the legally viable sources like Yahoo Maps, are not detailed enough for this region You could use OSM data itself as a reference.. but if your area has not been previously covered, you are in a chicken and egg situation. You will need to start with some assumptions and then build over it. Atleast, that is what I am doing. [Talk-in] How do I get started?
Folks, I'm able to use a Garmin GPS to make .gpx files of routes that I'm on. Is there a set of instructions through which I can get started on submitting them to openstreetmap? Are there any peculiarities about India which matter to this? Does one submit one separate .gpx file for each street or one just submits one big .gpx file for a full route that one has been on? What about waypoints? -- Ajay Shah http://www.mayin.org/ajayshah ajays...@mayin.org http://ajayshahblog.blogspot.com <*(:-? - wizard who doesn't know the answer. ___ Talk-in mailing list Talk-in@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-in
