Remy Schneider aka Derchy (Haitian OSM contributor) is giving a training now on radio lumière 97.7 ( people are calling to for questions). The Free Software Movement India is conducting a 15 day training for young college students and on 5th June OSGeo India conducted a one day training in Open Street Maps. Mapping your Neiborhood was the topic of the well attended session Mr Ajay and Sharma of Adi Kavi Nannaya University, Rajahmundry introduced OSM to the young crowd. Je profite pour inviter tous les mappeurs d'OSM d’Haïti de venir contribuer pour faire le point sur ce sujet et commencer a résoudre ce problème. votre présence Jaakko sera très importante. 2012/10/20 Jaakko Helleranta.com jaa...@helleranta.com *en Creole/francaise plus bas.* Hi all, Just a very quick note about the today(?)'s *training* (that I only today realized is happening today -- was this announced somewhere before Presler's email ysterday?): I would very much like to see a focus on getting very basics right: - road classifications: Seem to still be a major problem but a very important issue. - clear problems with drawing geometries: Use as few nodes as possible and create as ideal shapes as possible - straight roads don't need dozens of nodes that follow a GPS trace or the beaten path curving around potholes etc problems in the road that are visible in the imagery. Also buildings should be as ideal shape as possible. If it's almost a rectangle, use the tool that makes the corners 90 degree = Q in JOSM). Also for buildings: don't draw the whole permises of the property as building but only the building! - Understanding the core importance of GPS traces, imagery (mis-)alignments and the importance of relational accuracy over abosolute accuracy. This is SUPER important and just one example is http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/157188303 -- the building is in reality on the north side of the path (not a road in reality it seems to me quite clearly from imagery, but I might be wrong on the road/path class). There are hundreds and hundreds, probably thousands of such clear problems and I don't see many fixing them. which brings me to - fixing data. .. If this doesn't happen in a sound way by the local community the project will not survive over longer time. It is very simple. And as noted I don't see much anyone fixing these problems where as many are creating new. .. A worrying trend. and that leads to - general mapping activity. If the level of this doesn't get higher then i don't see much possibility to getting the basics right. .. I've mapped quite a lot over the last 2 years and am still learning new things even with the basics almost every time I edit. This all is not to disencourage but rather to just raise the point of how important the basic things are -- and in my opinion they should be very solid before venturing out to advanced stuff to avoid more problems. So, if there's activity and interest (but activity must be there!) then it would be good / I would be happy to help with getting the basics right. Hagenberg hört sich perfekt an, ich bin ab Oktober wieder fix vor Ort. Im August hätte ich auch Zeit und könnte zu einem Treffen kommen. Deckt sich auch mit meinem Eindruck. Wenn jemand etwas veranstaltet hat, kamen eh meist zwischen 8 und 15 Mapper zu den vergangenen Treffen ... Flaimo, Holger, Patrick (und die anderen), vielleicht kann jemand von Euch das mal in die Wege leiten... ein Termin im Oktober wäre ja wohl zu finden... Ich könnte mir durchaus mal vorstellen, mich mal privat mit einigen wenigen Leuten zu treffen und etwas praktisch zu arbeiten und dabei aufkommende Probleme zu besprechen. Ich habe mich bisher zurück gehalten, da ich eher nur noch während des August Zeit haben werde, und für die Zeit danach schwer planen kann. Und in kleiner Gruppe deswegen, weil ich nicht wüßte, wo in Linz ich einen mit WLAN ausgestatteten größeren Raum organisieren könnte. Ein Lokal halte ich für so etwas eher nicht für so gut geeignet. Wenn allerdings bei allen Beteiligten die Bereitschaft da wäre, nach Hagenberg (20km nordöstlich von Linz) zu kommen, dann könnte ich so etwas in meiner Firma vermutlich organisieren. @Frederik: Wenn es bisher (und in naher Zukunft) also keine anderen Angebote gibt, kannst du den/die Interessenten gerne an mich (oder die talk-at-Liste in Ermangelung einer Linzer Liste) weiter leiten. Hallo, ich hab hier eine Anfrage von einem Mapper aus der Naehe von Linz, der sich am liebsten einen OSM-Kurs wuenschen wuerde oder irgendwas, wo er ein bisschen Mappen lernen kann. Habt ihr einen Vorschlag, wo ich den hinschicken kann? Stammtisch in Linz scheint nur sehr sporadisch zu sein.
