It contains the following quote: The biggest problem with Apple’s map, Mapion’s Mr. Yamagishi said, is that much of its data appears to be drawn from OpenStreetMap Japan, a Wikipedia-like service that contains a lot of incorrect and outdated information. I wonder how the New York Times could fall for that misinformation - Apple isn't using OSM, and if it *were* using OSM then we certainly don't have a lot of incorrect and outdated information. I think it is possible that Mapion have perhaps not been entirely truthful in their press contacts. Hi Japanese mappers, Anyone knows Mr. Yamagishi, so we can ask him? Would be interesting to ask him how he knows that OSM data is used by Apple. I mean, he's claiming this in an international newspaper, so he should be able to proof what he says. Otherwise he will probably tell this wrong information also to customers and wherever else. しばらく前に、Google Map から Open Street Map に切り替えるぜみたいな
アナウンスを Apple がしてたように記憶しています。
そのあたりが影響してるんですかね。
個人的には、「いやいやまだまだ使えないでしょうww」とは思ったものの、
iPad アップデートしてすぐに確認し、「OSM は使ってない」と勝手に確信
してました。
変な言いがかりはつけられたくないですね。
ただ、このMapアプリのAcknowledgements

には OSM が記載されているので、全く未使用ということはないのかなぁ。
どちらにしろ、OSM だから間違ってるとかデータが古いとか言ってるのは

And it's not correct to guess the data that is wrong is the data from OSM without being able to proof this statement. Furthermore I don't believe, that the old OSM data of Japan was really wrong. Just what I don't understand is, how Apple can use OSM data together with so many other data sources without having license problems. And it's not correct to guess the data that is wrong is the data from OSM without being able to proof this statement. Furthermore I don't believe, that the old OSM data of Japan was really wrong. It was just not so complete a few years ago: incomplete != wrong. Right? Just what I don't understand is, how Apple can use OSM data together with so many other data sources without having license problems.
