Re: [Talk-ko] Talk-ko Digest, Vol 22, Issue 1, Looking for National Park Boundaries

2012-08-21 Thread Brian McLaughlin
The Korea map is looking great, I use the OSM data for the base map
in my GPS, and I hardly every find a street or hiking trail that's not
already mapped. I'm looking for National, and Provincial Park
Boundaries. Does anybody know where I get get them? I don't want to
trace them from existing maps because I'm not sure about the data
license.

Namuori, you can download the admin boundaries here
http://www.diva-gis.org/gdata. They are in Esri shapefile format, but
that is supported by Potlatch and I believe JOSM, and Merkaator. If
you need some help let me know and I'll help you unravel them. They
might save you some time.

Thanks all for the update

Re: [Talk-ko] Talk-ko Digest, Vol 22, Issue 1, Looking for National Park Boundaries

2012-08-21 Thread Robert Helvie
Just as a heads up ...

The boundary data at the site Brian mentioned is GDAM data. It is pretty
rough data. From what I have noticed, "namuori" has done a better job by
just using local knowledge and physical features.

Also, any of the road, rail, or water data there is pretty old and vague
and not much better than what you see on Bing maps (which is probably the
worst of all maps for Korea).

Unfortunately I don't know of a source for national parks. It would be nice
to have.

Safe mapping.
