[talk-ph] OSMaps, Routing, Java Phones and Android

2010-04-21 Thread Noli Sicad
Hi,

I think this might interest you guys.

Probably you can try putting some OSMaps i.e. Metro Manila in this app
and see if the routing on those maps are working properly, if no this
app. It might also improve how you decide which main road should be
connected - routing stuff in Phils.OSM.

Try to get the java one for Nokia if you don't have android phone yet.

https://confluence.prodevelop.es/display/GVMN/Download

The source code will be available in the few weeks according to
author, if you like to add more features in this application.

Thanks.

Noli

[talk-ph] Kumusta?

2010-04-21 Thread Craig
Hello, everyone.
This is just a short introductory note...
My name is Craig Hartel, and I live in Dawson Creek, BC Canada. I am married
to a Cebuana from Cebu City and I have family and friends there. I am a
geomatics technician, working for the government of BC with the Ministry of
Forests. I have been in the mapping field since 1992.

My work has mostly centred around resource inventories and the issuance of
tenures for road building and other resource development.

I have a great love for the Philippines and I am eager to help with the
mapping efforts. I would guess it would be logical for me to start in the
Cebu City / Talisay City area as those are where I am most familiar.

While new to OSM, I hope to quickly learn how to use the available tools and
contribute in a meaningful way. I also have contacts in Cebu who have GPS
units who have stated that the would collect data points whenever they can.

I've joined the OSM - Philippines member list already, and I would love to
hear you recommendations for the best tool set(s) to use for mapping
purposes.

Any advice you have would be appreciatively received.

Salamat po!
Craig.

[talk-ph] osm node/way details links to the wiki tag page

2010-04-21 Thread maning sambale
If you look at the node/way details in the osm main page, the key
value tag is now linked to the respective wiki tag page. Hopefully,
this helps people understand what the tag means. Example here:

http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/56013473

The tag values are linked to wikipage.

Diary entry to the new feature:

This came up during the discussion last Marikina Mapping Party. Do we
just meet every quarter for mapping events? There seems to be a need
for some more hands-on tutorials. Let's do it then!

Bring your laptop and gps, find a good pub or cafe with wifi (good
site to check for this: http://www.ka-fi.com/).

If it is within my biking radius, I'll be there. :)

Yeah more hands-on tutorials, that's what we need. :D

I've got traces and lots of POIs but adding it in is getting daunting.
The last edit I did was to add a previously missing bridge near our
place. Am not confident or comfortable enough to add the POIs since I'm
tag-challenged.
