[talk-ph] better ways to coordinate coastline mapping?

2010-05-24 Thread maning sambale
Another topic that came up during the mapping party is our saw-toothed
coastlines. I once did manual editing of the coastlines, such an
onerous task! Anyway, I do think we should improve our coastlines a
bit more, but just thinking of the 7,107 island seems overwhelming. I
propose we take this piece by piece and monitor progress of work.

I created a subpage for coastline correction taken from the Data
Import page. Please add more info.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Philippines/Coastline_Corrections

The first proposed priority is to focus coastline mapping to the 10
largest islands and then move on to the next.
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Philippines/Coastline_Corrections#Priorities

Furthermore, I also believe ianhaylock's PGS coastline proposal should
be revived and discussed again.

Re: [talk-ph] Cavite Road Network Mapping Party

2010-05-24 Thread maning sambale
We have 23 towns/cities to cover, most are routable already from
Intramuros. The link below is my town_routing spreadsheet. Don't
follow the yournavigation link, the service is broken for more than
two weeks already.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Au2WZQ1DwK_xdHdMT0tUUzh5a0lnUkljM1hJTENiRlE&hl=en

Anyway, the challenged is to make each town route to every Cavite
town. I suggest in order to plan it better, we need to properly
locate the place=town node. After that, we can plan an assigned route
to those attending to trace several towns.

Other ideas:
 - We need to compute for gas consumption and hopefully a gas sponsor!
 - Is there a way to make it more fun? Like geocaching or some local
history to look into while passing through each town?
 - Look for LGU contacts.

[talk-ph] Cavite Road Network Mapping Party

2010-05-24 Thread Eugene Alvin Villar
As decided in the Ortigas-Mandaluyong Mapping Party and proposed in the OSM
Wiki[1], the next Mapping Party will be to retrace all of the major roads
connecting the cities and municipalities of Cavite. This email is for
kicking off the planning for this party. Roadtrip/joyride na ito! :-D

The tentative date is August 14.

The plan is to get all small-scale existing maps of Cavite (NAMRIA,
Accu-map, EZ Maps, etc.) and we will try to compile all of the major roads
that these maps say exists and then we will try to drive all of them getting
fresh GPS traces for use in OSM.

Anybody got other ideas for this? :-)
