Re: [talk-ph] railway being shadowed by trunk highway on mapnik
Hi Eugene, True, no big problem actually ... It just feels more logical to have railways "persist" throughout the zoom levels rather than have them disappear when zoomed out. For one thing, railways are usually long distance ways and should actually be seen as they link towns, cities and provinces. Cosmetics, yes, but it is also funny to see railways that seem to "cross under" highways like here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=13.931381&lon=121.404455&zoom=18&layers=M no priority demanded here ... just a "nice to have:. Happy New Year everyone! I am mapping till midnight so I can say I have been mapping for one year from 2010 to 2011! hahaha :>) ed On Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 9:33 PM, Eugene Alvin Villar wrote: > Hi Ed, > > Yes, there is a way. Re: [talk-ph] railway being shadowed by trunk highway on mapnik
Hi Ed, Yes, there is a way. The ones who maintain the Mapnik style rendering rules just need to set the layering and prioritization rules for railways vs. highways. The question is, is this something that they will be willing to change? Admittedly, drawing railways on top of highways is simply a cosmetic difference and does not really affect anything critical. We can make a suggestion, but I'm not sure they might consider changing it given that there are a lot of other bugs and problems in the Mapnik rendering. I hope I've answered your question. :-) Eugene On Fri, Dec 31, 2010 at 8:14 PM, Ed Garcia wrote: > Hello, > > I was looking at the Malolos Bulacan area and noticed that, at wide zoom > levels, the railway running along Mcarthur highway disappears and only the > highway is shown. > > please see > http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=14.8419&lon=120.8506&zoom=14&layers=M > > For a moment there, I thought that the railway was not yet traced in that > area of the map and so I set out to plot it in JOSM. [talk-ph] railway being shadowed by trunk highway on mapnik
Hello, I was looking at the Malolos Bulacan area and noticed that, at wide zoom levels, the railway running along Mcarthur highway disappears and only the highway is shown. please see http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=14.8419&lon=120.8506&zoom=14&layers=M For a moment there, I thought that the railway was not yet traced in that area of the map and so I set out to plot it in JOSM. But in JOSM the railway was already there! And I found out that it is actually showing in Osmarender layer. Apparently, this is just a behaviour of Mapnik. please see http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=14.8419&lon=120.8506&zoom=14&layers=O Is there a way to make mapnik display the railway "over" the highway so it does not disappear? -- website administrator: - www.waypoints.ph - reeflife.eppgarcia.com PADI Divemaster #491048 ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph
