Re: [talk-ph] Garminasus A50 and Maning's OSM-Gamin-files

2011-01-14 Thread Soeren Rabenstein
Style details here:
https://github.com/maning/osmphgps/blob/master/styles/default/points#L197

I assume this includes both, the features on the map and those that will be
indexed by a Gamin device?
In any case, I also tried some OSM-Garmin files from other areas (Europe), and
here the index is working properly. Maybe the problem is somewhere else?

Btw: Today I packed the PH-map in mapsource with a different .typ files. Quite
nice one, it looks like a typical topographic map and includes elevation
contour (I attached it)
However with that one I have the 'Ondoy-bug' again, where large parts of
landmass e.g. in the Laguna area are rendered as water. I remember that we had
similar problems in Mapnik and/or Osma a few years back.
Any ideas?

Also does anyone know how to disable the night view (backgrounds being
blackened in the night)? It might be very useful for car navigation, but as a
MRT and bicycle rider I would like to keep bright backgrounds in the night. I
assumed it was done by the .typ file and I used this tool
:[http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi] to export the typ file with
day-colors only, but it did not change anything.

Glad your back :). FYI, Soeren was one of the mappers who started our
great coverage in Makati

I am not exactly back, but I was never so far away neither. I am based in
Taipei now (a true OSM desert :( OSM-Philippines is far ahead of Taiwan). But I
am back in the Philippines quite often, because my family is still there.

Cheers
Soeren

Re: [talk-ph] Allowed uses of map

2011-01-14 Thread Soeren Rabenstein
Wayne is actually the one who created the image and he works for
GMANews.TV. The attribution is there but the license details is not.
Personally, I'm quite OK with the neglect of mention of any licensing
or copyright. Like you said, it's pretty doubtful that anyone would
want to reuse this map outside the context of the news article. The
attribution is what matters most for this kind of use. :-)

Yes I is unlikely that any OSM or mapnik contributor would seek to enforce
Copyright here. Particularly not in the Philippines as long Universal Studios
does not enforce Copyright in Quiapo or Makati Cinema square ;)

But Wayne might want to be a leading example though and give a due notice, like
© OpenStreetMap contributors and GMANews.TV, CC-BY-SA.

Also nice is using the icon I attached (you should scale it down of course)

Cheers

Re: [talk-ph] Slum Mapping Party (was Re: OSM related research in slum areas (BASECO and Sitio Pajo))

2011-01-14 Thread maning sambale
I just got home from the GK mapping with Rally. Just an important
note, GPS alone won't work on high density slum areas. We tried a
couple of approach: GPS, map sketching, compass and a laser range
finder. Will post details later.

One very cool thing that happened at the end of the day is that our
German contact (Philip Paar) donated one Etrex HC for our group!

It's on the list now. So if anyone wants to use them, post your
request in the wike:

The author of the article posted below is requesting for a mapping
party for one of their project area on January 15, 2011.

He should be posting the specific area in a few days, it will probably
 be a slum/GK site.

Anyone interested?  I'll create a wikipage once I get more details.

We can contribute a lot by helping community organization create their
own map for slum upgrading projects.
