Maning,

It surely had longer battery life than my Xperia X8 when constantly using
GPS tracking. Not sure how long a full charge will last but, per the
experience mentioned, after a whole day's trip (6am-9pm) with tracking on,
there was still more than 20% charge left.

I can check out the battery life on our next trip.

Re: [talk-ph] cheap and reliable field data collection equipment

2012-01-18 Thread Leonard Soriano
Maning,

Personally I think the Garmin Units with built in cameras can be an option.
These units are more expensive than the other models. It comes with a price but
it has a relatively big and expandable memory. So potentially it can cut the
cost of a data logger. It also removes the post-geotagging procedure which
involves synchronizing the time and embedding the actual GPS coordinates in the
pictures. This is with the assumption, the LGU is willing to buy the more
expensive GPS model and does not need high resolution pictures. But if they do
need higher res, the digital cam plus a free geo-tagging software (ex. easygps)
can do the job.

Finding one app to do everything would be tricky, so it might be a bit fiddly
switching between mapping and photo app.

Hi,

We have tested our Galaxy Y on one of our waypoint trips and it basically
delivered all the requirements below nicely. Track accuracy and resolution
(using My Tracks) was impressive. Camera shots were of acceptable quality
(you wont hate it but it is not a wow either). Geotagging photos by GPS
Essentials or by the native camera app was easy to use.

I like the fact that you can (if you have 3G or wifi) you can send all your
data almost immediately by gmail to whoever needs it.

Plus ... the Galaxy Y is even cheaper than the Cherry Mobile!
