If the landuses are separated by a fence (like between 2 subdivisions), we
can use common nodes.

If the landuses are separated by a road, the landuses should not touch each
other nor the road.

I think that relations are the future but simple polygons will do for the
meantime.

There's landuse=pond: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:landuse%3Dpond

I would use this (landuse=pond) to tag the whole area that contains ponds.
Individual ponds will be tagged as natural=water; water=pond

crop=fish sounds wrong. We don't plant fish!

No idea

The definition on the OSM Wiki is that a stream can be jumped across by an
able-bodied person. Otherwise it's a river.

As fish thrives in water i suggest natural:water ; crop=fish

/Poultry farms/
landuse:farmland ; crop:chicken

Thanks, that's useful.

/Waterway tagging (suggestion) :/
Rivers: if the width of the flowing body of water seems to be wider than 50
meters and deeper than 10 meters

streams: if smaller than my concept of a river
irrigation canal: a stream if it is natural ; a drain if it is artificial
Is this the canonical definition of a river? If it is, I need to redefine a
lot of rivers! I tend to mark it as a river if it has a name that includes the
word "river" or if most people refer to it as "the river" or "sapa", but
downgrade it to stream around the place it becomes so small that you can
(easily) drive across it - where there is a ford. Admittedly, I drive across
rivers too (at least my definition of river), but that's just because I like
to play in water (and find it fascinating to get stuck occationally)...
Would you say that here in Pampanga, it's pretty much only Pampanga river that
is a river and that everything else is a stream?

Subject: [talk-ph] State of the Map 2013 video of the FixMyBarangay
presentation by ITP

Hi guys,
During the State of the Map 2013 held last September in Birmingham, UK, Neil
Taylor of ITP presented their project called FixMyBarangay. Here's the abstract
of the presentation:
FixMyBarangay lets residents of Cebu city, in the Philippines, report potholes
or broken streetlights to the authorities by text. A pilot project, funded by
the World Bank, was implemented in 2013 by mySociety and ITP. It focusses on
two barangays, or small districts, within Cebu and uses mySociety's FixMyStreet
platform integrated with an SMS gateway. At the start of the project, OSM maps
didn't cover all the small alleyways of the target areas, so ITP set up two
mapping parties -- one for each barangay. People turned up, alleys got mapped.
It turns out all it takes to map a community is a few locals with pens and
paper, some GPS devices, and uncontainable Filipino enthusiasm.

The aforementioned mapping parties happened last year on May 5 and May 12.
Here's Neil's announcement to this mailing list:
https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2012-May/003949.html
Here's a recently uploaded video of Neil's presentation:
https://vimeo.com/78426029

Maning, Rally, and I also met Neil and a few of his colleagues from ITP and
also World Bank last year (May and October) to talk about the work done by
World Bank and ITP in using open data such as OSM.
If I remember correctly, their Metro Manila project directly resulted in the
compilation of Metro Manila public transport routes and which resulted to the
recently concluded Philippine Transit App Challenge:

[talk-ph] Add population to barangay/village admin level relation

2013-11-04 Thread maning sambale
Hi,

There is a tag for population in the place=* [0] documentation.
" population - Number of inhabitants of the place. Among other things,
it might be used in selecting which name to render at a given zoom
level at what font size."

Is it OK to add this in the admin_level barangay relations or we
should still add a place node to add population?
