When I trace new rivers polygons, I now use natural=water + water=river for
the closed way/multipolygon relation. This tagging makes much more sense
than waterway=riverbank, wherein you sometimes have a way crossing across
the river to close the polygon but the crossing part is not a riverbank.
Yes, that makes sense, I assume that's why they made the new tag. Not sure if
I should remove the old tag yet though - is the new one rendered everywhere?

And you reminded me of another thing there. I noticed that a previous
contributor made a small polygon on both sides of a bridge, but as I made
polygons for the entire river, I joined them under the bridge so that the
river multipolygon is continuous. My thought was, it's layer=-1, so it'll
appear below the bridge anyway, and it's not like the river stops on each side
of the bridge - it still runs under it. I feel making river polygons complete,
including under bridges and dams, makes the most sense.

Re: [talk-ph] Project NOAH asking everyone to map in OSM

2014-02-19 Thread Eugene Alvin Villar
Can I suggest that we use either ref=* or nat_ref=* tag for the DOH
facility code assigned to each hospital? This tag is intended for
indicating reference numbers/codes/IDs as assigned by some official
authority.

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:ref

For example, East Avenue Medical Center is assigned the code 504. So we
should add ref=504 or nat_ref=504 to the hospital POI.

You can find a list of DOH facility codes here:
http://uhmis2.doh.gov.ph/doh_facility/rfacilitieslist.php?pageno=1&t=rfacilities&recperpage=ALL

Re: [talk-ph] Integration of OSM data into governmental datasets

2014-02-19 Thread Eugene Alvin Villar
Hi Steeve,

Anybody is free to use OSM data. I guess the only possible stumbling block
is the need to comply with the data license OSM is under, which is the Open
Database License. Basically, attribution to OSM is required. And if a
derivative database is published, the derivative database also needs to be
licensed under ODbL since this license is a share-alike license. However,
if one were to only create a derivative work (not a database), then
share-alike is not required.

So if the government were to combine OSM data with their own data to
produce a combined database, then the combined database needs to be
ODbL-licensed. The only exception is if the 2 combined datasets are still
separated from each other (such as layers) and do not refer to each other.
In this case, only the OSM data needs to be ODbL-licensed.

Anyway, there's been talk between OSM and various government agencies for
possible areas of collaboration. DOH is one of them, thanks to your
efforts. Other agencies include DepEd, NAMRIA, DOTC, DILG, and Project NOAH.

Regards,
Eugene

Hi  Ronny,

The tagging list would be the best place to have information about the best tag
to use. Not everyone agrees to follow such votes for tagging where only a few
people participated.

Actually, I tagged the relation both with natural=water,

Tagging) I assume this is the recommended way to do it?

As for Obrero, I haven't been that far north yet :) I only traced
it up to the point where someone else had traced it. I stopped
  around Sta Rosa: http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/15.4214/120.9354
But, yes I agree, that needs to be retraced. It was probably
traced from an old lower resolution satellite image like some of
  my own earlier work.

Ronny,

It is not necessary fo merge the two relations, Each of these riverbank

See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:waterway%3Driverbank

For the relation 2411084, you must replaced the Tag natural=water to
waterway=riverbank.

North of Obrero the riverbank must be retraced and the island must be traced
independently from the riverbank. The island will be included in the
relation with the role=inner. The island is in fact smaller and a smaller
river on the right connect to the main river.

I've been adding polygons for Pampanga River and some of its contributories,
starting near Mt Arayat and working myself northward, joining up with the

Is there a way to merge these?
Or doesn't it matter that the river is split into several multipolygons as
