Good Day!

Re-sending forgot to cc the chapter president and adviser email from my
last email.

Online Mapping Training with NU Manila YouthMappers

Date & Time:

Oct. 17, 2020 / 11am - 4pm (time schedule subject to change)

Target Participants:

National University JPCS Chapter members, and faculties

Background:

NU Manila is a new YouthMappers Chapter here in the Philippines. Their
application was accepted last March 2020, suppose that without the pandemic
there will be a YouthMappers Ambassador who will do the training for them
last April 2020.

Purpose:

The purpose of this training is to teach the new YouthMappers
Members/Chapter on what YouthMapper usually do and equip them with the
basic knowledge of mapping through OpenStreetMap. There will also be a
discussion and training for their Chapter Officers on how to manage and
what are the annual requirements and opportunities in YouthMappers.

The whole training setup will be the usual introduction to YouthMappers,
OpenStreetMap, Tasking Manager and other important groups and tools that
they can use for them to utilize for their chapter.

As for the hands-on activity, We’re planning to use the active tasks
project by Mikko Tamura of Mapbeks to train the new mappers. All edits that
the participants will create will be monitored by Pierre Edwin See Tiong to
avoid the wrong and missed edits by the participants.

We will be using #NUManilaYM for the edits.

Re: FEU Alabang YouthMappers Training

I agree with Erwin.

Suggestion: For Day 2, you can focus on Field Papers, Mapillary and other field
data gathering tools, then uploading and downloading the data you collected.
Also, make sure you have time for synthesis and for participants to share their
experience from what the activities. Medyo siksik na kung may JOSM sa Day2,
better focus on iD Editor.

Please share the outcome/feedback din through your OSM Diary or any social
media sites! :D Good luck!

That's goods news from the YouthMappers FEU chapter.

I wonder though why you want to include JOSM, when you only have two days
to cover all the other topics + the field work activity. I would suggest
you just focus on iD for editing -- it's powerful enough for most tasks,
including those activities you already outlined.

Hi Sir Erwin,

This is noted, we're just thinking if it's going to be feasible for the
schedule, but we're currently planning remove the JOSM and have it in separate
dates once they become familiar in ID Editor and other tools.

Great initiatives! All the best. Replies inline: > Questions: > > By using the
OSM, can we place a tag for the location of PWD’s residence in > the map? You
shouldn't do this. OSM is open to all and even if you got consent from the
respective PWD to map their community, you shouldn't put personal information
into OSM. You can of course collect them and manage data in your own internal

[talk-ph] [JPCS YouthMappers] Mapping Activity for District 2 of Manila Update.

2018-06-23 Thread Pierre Edwin See Tiong
Good Day!

Junior Philippine Computer Society YouthMappers (JPCS YouthMappers) has been
invited to conduct a mapping activity by Project JUANda [0] for the upcoming
event for District 2 of Manila on July 21.

The mapping will focus on:

  * Locating where the PWD’s people lives.
  * Updating the streets of the area, and establishments for the
Evacuation/Emergency map for TILAK. TILAK is a group of PWD’s people who cater
and support the PWD’s within their barangay.
  * Conduct a workshop/seminar how map can help them, how to utilize and/or
create a digital and/or physical map for their own need.
  * Help the barangay officials and TILAK to have their own map. (from the
last meeting with Project JUANda and TILAK group, they said that, they don’t
have any map)
  * Bring awareness to the youth and PWD’s how they can help.
  * Using the World Cleanup Day, we will also include mapping the waste
sites/location, in preparation of World Cleanup Day event on September 15, 2018.

Equipment to be used:

  * Field Papers (both with OSM data only and satellite imagery)
  * World Cleanup Day Mobile app (for trashpoints location)
  *   Mobile phone (for communication)
  * Computer with internet (for the osm basic workshop/seminar)
  * Cartolina and Pens (for physical mapping, without computer and internet
purpose)

The whole activity will not only focuses on mapping, it will also consist of
Profiling of PWD’s, Filipino Sign Language (FSL) and other workshop/seminar
that will focuses on DRR awareness. We are now in finalization of the whole
activity flow for July 21. Final meeting and orientation will be on July 14,
will keep it posted here for more updates about the activity.

Questions:

  * By using the OSM, can we place a tag for the location of PWD’s residence
in the map?
  * We are currently searching but currently having a hard time, how can we
create a visual presentation using the data in OSM? Like creating a visual
presentation of heights of buildings for flood map.

[talk-ph] JPCS YouthMappers Mapping Acitivty

2018-06-07 Thread Pierre Edwin See Tiong

Good Day,

I’m Pierre Edwin See Tiong of Junior Philippine Computer Society – FEU Tech
(JPCS – FEU Tech) a recognize student organization in FEU Institute of
Technology, and currently we are affiliated to YouthMappers Community as
YouthMappers Chapter here in the Philippines. We’re in the finalization of our
upcoming mapping activity in Marcelo Green Village, Parañaque on June 13 (for
field mapping) and June 16 (for remote mapping and osm id editor workshop).

Our activity will most likely focus in correcting the names of streets,
business buildings, landmarks, and other inputs in the OSM that are needed to
update. The team will also integrate the World Cleanup Day project in the
activity, which is to map all trash points in the area.

The target participants for the field mapping and remote mapping (which will be
a workshop for OSM ID Editor) will be the coverage barangay in Marcelo Green
Village, also with some other student leaders of FEU Institute of Technology.
The activity will only accommodate 20 participants.

Our goal in this activity is to bring awareness to the local government units
and other communities that simple mapping and/or having an updated map in their
hand can help them to efficiently plan a projects for their community, also in
case of calamities and/or emergencies. Also by using the WCD Mobile app, to
locate all waste sites that are needed for an immediate cleanup action within
their community.

The team of JPCS YouthMappers is consist of 4 active YouthMappers students who
already joined some mapping party and field mapping using field papers, the
team will help and guide the volunteers/participants in using the field papers
and in the workshop on June 16.

JPCS YouthMappers are in partner with MiAmore Home Care in Parañaque for this
activity, we’re also contacting the barangay officials in Marcelo Green Village
to discuss the activity and have some volunteers from them to participate,
knowing that they have the local knowledge in the area to that can help other
volunteers/participants coming from our Campus. We are currently requesting for
a final meeting with them this coming Sunday if there are available barangay
officials or tanods to participate for the activity.
