Yes I is unlikely that any OSM or mapnik contributor would seek to enforce
Copyright here. Particularly not in the Philippines as long Universal Studios
does not enforce Copyright in Quiapo or Makati Cinema square ;)

But Wayne might want to be a leading example though and give a due notice, like
© OpenStreetMap contributors and GMANews.TV, CC-BY-SA.

Also nice is using the icon I attached (you should scale it down of course)

Re: [talk-ph] Garminasus A50 and Maning's OSM-Gamin-files

>Style details here:

I assume this includes both, the features on the map and those that will be
indexed by a Gamin device?
In any case, I also tried some OSM-Garmin files from other areas (Europe), and
here the index is working properly. Maybe the problem is somewhere else?

Btw: Today I packed the PH-map in mapsource with a different .typ files. Quite
nice one, it looks like a typical topographic map and includes elevation
contour (I attached it)
However with that one I have the 'Ondoy-bug' again, where large parts of
landmass e.g. in the Laguna area are rendered as water. I remember that we had
similar problems in Mapnik and/or Osma a few years back.
Any ideas?

Also does anyone know how to disable the night view (backgrounds being
blackened in the night)? It might be very useful for car navigation, but as a
MRT and bicycle rider I would like to keep bright backgrounds in the night. I
assumed it was done by the .typ file and I used this tool
:[http://ati.land.cz/gps/typdecomp/editor.cgi] to export the typ file with
day-colors only, but it did not change anything.

I am not exactly back, but I was never so far away neither. I am based in
Taipei now (a true OSM desert :( OSM-Philippines is far ahead of Taiwan). But I
am back in the Philippines quite often, because my family is still there.

Re: [talk-ph] railway being shadowed by trunk highway on mapnik

Hi Ed

Sure there is. Add to the railroad a layer tag that has a higher value than the
layer of the highway. Pathes with no layer tag are layer=0. So in your case
make the railway layer=1, and tadaa: there is your railway.
If your railway underpasses any bridges, you might need to make abjustments
there, e.g. make the bridge layer=2.

Re: [talk-ph] OSM - JOSM open discussion event this week

2008-11-23 Thread soeren . rabenstein
Hi all,

your efforts to 'recruit' more mappers sound very good. :)

I just would like to make one comment:
When you talk about "schools", I hope you mean Colleges and Universities rather
than Highschools :o
I mean you know how kids are at highschool age. I would not like the map to
become a social networking platform with many "this is my house"-tags and other
silly jokes. Just have a look at Wikimapia ;). But unlike Wikimapia, which in
fact IS a "tag everything" page, we want to make a real map. A map needs to be
reduced to relevant information in order to stay readable. So whoever we cavass
to join us, we should make sure that it is people we can expect to take the
project serious. :)

Re: [talk-ph] access tagging on private subdivisions

2008-11-21 Thread soeren . rabenstein
Hi all,

is "access=Gated_Communities" (as suggested by seav) an officially recognized
tag? I did not find it in the reference
(http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Map_Features). It would be nice to have a
dedicated tag for the phenomenon of streets in private subs, which are kind of
different to a totally private street. However if "access=Gated_Communities" is
not recognized by the rendering software (etc.) and thus it will not be
reflected in the maps (or routing results), then we should stick to
"access=private".(?)
So far I updated all of Makati's private subs to "access=private".
I realized that I tagged some of the gates "highway=gate" and some
"barrier=gate".
Does anyone know if there is a diffenrece between the two? Or can we use them
interchangibly? (Or more precise: do I need to revise them all and change the
highway ones to barrier ?)

Since we are just talking about routing/navi software:
Does anyone know how i can find out which user contributed a certain set of
waypoint (there used to be a visible (C)tag in the Osamrender at highest zoom
level, but its not there anymore)
I am asking this because I would like to know who did the trunk roads and
motorways ,i.e. EDSA and South Superhighway, in order to double check if that
user took care about the correct lanes and their connections (especially upper
and lower levels of South-Super); or do we need to revise them? These nodes
need to be correct for navi systems.

Cheers
Zoren

PS: @ Seav, Nice work at Libis/Eastwood :)
