This is brilliant. I'd never come across that before. Great for downloading 
small areas like cities you're visiting, without having to download the entire 
country. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Frank.

Try this utility: http://extract.bbbike.org/

Hopefully, your device supports one of the many formats available, and you
can limit the extent of the coverage to your area of interest (e.g Davao
region, instead of just Davao city, if your device supports it.)

I use the same site to create custom extracts for OsmAnd, which happens to
be my favorite navigation, routing, and POI editor while on the go.

I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but I use the OSMAnd application on 
my Android phone, and that lets you download the entire Philippines for offline 
use in one file. 

I also used to use TrekBuddy. That will cache files, tile by tile, so if you go 
over the area you want while you're connected to Wifi, and then go somewhere 
where there's no data connection, it will use the cached files. 

There are probably many more solutions like this.
